Guitar Build, If Anyone Knows?Music

I'm gonna build a guitar for my Senior Project, and I'm looking for a JEM style body, i found one on ****, but it's in the UK and shipping will be a lot. I found a JEM body that is in Maryland, and that should be good. The seller's price is $190, i was wondering if that is a pretty good price, it's made out of Basswood. I plan to put : An Orginal Floyd Rose, 24 fret neck with a locking nut, and EMGs. I wanted to have something with EMGs ,and i don't need to worry about volume/ tone pots and input jacks. I was originally gonna go for a 59/JB combo but I would still need to buy the pots and input jacks. I'm not worried about the single coil, I'll be able to get one,and I can buy a 5-selector from Carvin.

I'm not sure about that one, but if you're game for shaping the body yourself, Warmoth offers blanks that have all the necessary stuff routed out for you. All you need to do is give it shape

They also offer some extremely high quality bodies that you can pick up. They're fairly reasonably priced too 👍

You really like Ibanez don't you? :p

I wouldn't recommend getting the EMG unless you're getting an active single coil as well. Mixing active pickups and passive pickups probably isn't possible on that body, as actives use lower value pots (~40K I think) whereas passives are usually in the area of 250-500K. That body only has room for a single tone and volume control, which means you have to choose between the low resistance active pots or the high resistance passive pots.

You might also need to check to see if an Original Floyd Rose will fit in. The item description says it accepts Ibanez parts, so I assuming the bridge is routed for an Ibanez Edge bridge or something. I'm not sure that they're the same dimensions and so forth of an OFR – I know licensed Floyd Roses vary from the original's dimensions.

:)

The seller custom makes his guitar bodies. I'd ask him to build you a JEM routed for an original Floyd, if you really want a Floyd in there. He probably wont charge you much extra, and it'll save you from a lot of suffering. Trust me. Best thing to do would be to just get an Edge tremolo for it. But, there are various Edge tremolos and they have their particulars. Read this website for detailed info... http://www.jemsite.com/news/edge2003/index.htm

For PUPS, you gotta' stick with these for your JEM... http://www.gtrheaven.com/pickups/dimarzio1.htm if you want a TRUE JEM model guitar. But, sounds like you don't. Go to these websites for possible PUPS choices...

Edge trems are so expensive, i can buy a new FR for less than a new Edge. And the FR is an original. Now for the body and neck i'll be buying the neck and body from this guy. From what i hear hes excellent. So I'm going for:

JEM body and neck
EMG 85/81 (Zakk Wylde Set)
Original FR
5 Way Pickup selector, any suggestions? Take into consideration im going for EMGs.
Gray Mirror Pickgaurd.

Are you sure your teacher will accept it? It sounds like you're assembling a guitar rather than building one. One of those options requires far more craftsmanship and attention to detail, which I'm presuming a senior project would demand.

And couldn't you find a cheaper body but without the silly Steve Vai handle?

Well my Project is about Tone of A guitar. I would just describe what different tones can be achieved, for my physical i can just use my own guitar. But i want a new guitar, so its kinda like an excuse to get a new one.
