No set list out yet but it should feature some good rock classics! Hopefully there will be some Iron Maiden (probably will since the X360 version features "The Trooper"), Metallica and AC/DC. :)

What do you think?

Nothing official yet but it looks like we're getting this one in a couple of months or less.

Guitar Hero '80s edition in June -- maybe July

A Guitar Hero: '80s Edition for PlayStation 2 was unofficially announced back in January by EGM. Although the game still hasn't been officially announced -- like some other games that kept popping up without official confirmation -- sites are starting to show release dates for GH: '80s.

Gamespot says GH: '80s is being released June 4, 2007. However, Gamefly and Amazon Canada (but not US) have the title slated for a July 31 release. Gamefly has been a pretty reliable source for a title being legitimate, but the release date is up for debate. What we do know is that the ESRB has not rated the game yet. So rockin' to the '80s is in the cards for the near future, but we hope to get a solid date real soon for this still officially unannounced game.

[Thanks, Brian]

Good to see the PS2 is still alive. 👍

So the game will be PS2 only, and a few songs were revealed already. Dio and Twisted Sister, this will be fun! 👍

Guitar Hero Rocking the 80s
Activision preps its axe and mullet ready for 30 new tunes.
by Rob Burman, IGN UK

UK, May 10, 2007 - Activision has confirmed that the previously rumoured Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s is heading exclusively to PS2 this summer, complete with 30 new rock classics.

"The 80s features an amazing variety of rock genres from hair metal to punk to new wave, and our dedicated Guitar Hero fans will definitely appreciate the opportunity to play all the new and exciting content we've added," said Dusty Welch, head of publishing at RedOctane. "As we delve deeper into the history of rock, we'll continue to offer a fresh experience and even more explosive tracks with the Guitar Hero franchise."

Activision also revealed Rocks the 80s features new characters and retro-inspired venues ready for you to trash. Unfortunately, only a snippet of the full track listing has been revealed by Activision at the moment, but so far it includes:

I Wanna Rock - Twisted Sister

I Ran - Seagulls

Round and Round - Ratt

I Want Candy - Bow Wow Wow

Metal Health - Quiet Riot

Holy Diver - Dio

Heat Of The Moment - Asia

We'll keep you updated when we hear about more rocking tunes.

A few more songs revealed:

GameTrailers
With their latest press release, the company has announced the licensing of seven new songs, which also range greatly across styles and genres. However, this new selection also shows a predilection towards the "hair bands", like Poison and Extreme, that made the era so infamous. Here's the new list:

*18 and Life (as made famous by Skid Row)

*Bathroom Wall (as made famous by Faster Pussycat)

*Lonely is the Night (as made famous by Billy Squier)

*Nothing But a Good Time (as made famous by Poison)

*Play With Me (as made famous by Extreme)

*Shaken (as made famous by Eddie Money)

*Synchronicity II (as made famous by Police)

As we mentioned before, Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s will be available on PS2 this summer.

A hands-on from IGN: http://ps2.ign.com/articles/793/793022p1.html

So it's basically the GHII game, the same characters and venues, only with '80s haircuts, clothes and colors. There will be thirty songs only and no bonus songs at all. Also it seems the game is easier to play than GHII, but fun nonetheless.

A couple of pics, there's more on IGN:

They need a force feedback guitar... :D

I can still remember how lame I thought this game looked when I first saw it at the Metreon... now I have worn out my thumbs to both and can't wait for the 3rd!

Humm...a remake of II with different songs and costumes...not what I was hoping for, looks good none-the-less...but I say roll on GH III

It's like they said in the hands-on, Rocks the '80s is more like an expansion of GHII than a sequel itself.

GHIII will be out later this year for the next gen consoles and the PS2 also, now with Activision's money on it. It will have more original recordings than the previous games, which is good, but they had to re-do the game coding and I hope I won't need a new controller for it.

come on
why did you have to make this thread so early
I cant wait another month now
if I didnt know I could wait
I hope they don't delay the release date

Hehe, sorry... I can wait another month, I'm still trying to finish GH2 on Expert. I'm left with Institutionalized, Hangar 18 and Freebird.

Plus I barely played the bonus songs.

Oh well, no biggie. Just an extra week.

I still have Freebird to finish on expert anyway...

I was never interested in the Guitar Hero series or even understand how they generate so much hoopla, but seeing an 80's version has me looking twice. The 80's is all I listen too. Poison is my favorite 80's band so it is cool to see Nothin But A Good Time on the list. There is so many awesome Poison songs, I hope they add more. Hopefully they will get an Autograph song there, maybe Turn Up The Radio.

Mmm, having 2nd thoughts. LOTS of good songs there by Judas, Winger, Vapors, Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, Skid Row and Poison (Could have used a better Iron Maiden).

But a couple songs there I don't care for.

But I would have expected a couple more bands from the 80's like Autograph, maybe another Motley Crue, Zeppelin, Bon Jovi, Eagles, Metallica (ok, not really since they weren't actually 80's; or were they late 80's?), Alice Cooper, AC/DC, Aerosmith, or Def Leppard.

Metallica were definitely '80s, first album is from 1981 if I'm not mistaken. Zeppelin weren't though.
