What are some sites that explain what certain strings do and how the string gauge affects the tone? Thanks in advanced, Reminder: This Thread Is Not Advice For Brand Suggestions. But More like a string FAQ.

I've tried looking for some, and im having kind of a hard time. Thanks for your effort. Wikipedia i've already used, i just need another site. Thanks!
 
Do you have a specific question, in particular? I can help. I've played just about every string out there, from plastic, nylon, steel, nickle, gold plated nickle, to whatever, and in all sorts of lengths and gauge.
 
Well i need some answers about how strings affect the tone. like thick gauge strings can produce a thick sound. where as thin strings can produce a thin sound. How does Plain and wound strings affect the tone.

I need a site where you can get this info. I need to cite it for my paper. Thanks!

I guess I could just tell you the answer, but since you need it for a paper you're doing... out of luck... but I'll keep and eye out for websites.
 
Go to yahoo, type in "Dansm". It will lead you to a bunch of info put out there by a guy named Dan Smith. He is a Grad student at Harvard, formerly from Cornell. His site is one of the most comprehensive I've seen regarding guitar theory, string comparos, how to excercise your hands to play guitar, etc.
Trust me, you won't be sorry you found this guy.👍
