Is there a tuner i can download for the pc? I found one on Download.com but the one i downloaded was infected with a trojan. I put it on ere because i dont think the Hobbies forum gets to many hits.

I no longer have a tuner. My ear automatically knows what 440 Hz is. I tune the A string to that, then the rest of the strings to it. Ring the natural harmonics at the lower string at the fith fret, and at the seventh fret for the higher pitch string. They should be in the same pitch. Do this for all the strings, except for the G and B strings. On the G string, ring the natural harmonic at the ninth fret, and at the fith fret for the B string. They should be in the same pitch.

EDIT: I forgot, the A string is tuned to 440, and not the low E. Sorry for the confusion. But, you can tune the low E to the A with no problem.

Those things are terrible. Tuning forks are much better. I have one for E and A. I never use them. They cost me about 6 to 7 bucks about 20 years ago. Today, they go for around 10 to 12 bucks a piece.

However, if you do what I told you, all you need is A, or E, to get you started. Here is a link for the A key sample.

Just go buy a tuner. I have a Korg GA-20 and it works great.

Yeah, I play the violin and they have digital tuners for them that can also be used for guitars. You just set the tuner for the instrument (I think) and then the string, and tune it until it says the string is in tune. I never had one,but i've seen other people with them. I think they go for like 20-30 bucks (U.S) and up, but they're really easy to use for some one who's not good at tuning an instrument (not that I'm saying you aren't).

Well I just went to go buy a tuner, I was Having trouble with tuning it. So i was like, screw it i cant do it. So i got a Korg Ga-30>>>>

I got a question about drop tuning( if its called that ) Like a Drop C or Drop D how do you tune this, and can you tune it with the Korg?

When you have 25 bucks get yourself a chromactic tuner.
standard is EADGbe
Drop D is DADGbe
then there is DADGAD
and a variety of others. DGDGBD being another popular altered tuning.

Drop D tuning is easy. Just lower the key of the Low E string from E to D. That's it. Actually, you can buy a tremolo add on part that allows you to lower the pitch from E to D on the fly. Also, if you have a good ear (I don't) you can tune the 6th string to the 4th string. And Viola you have dropped D.
