All tips are appreciated greatly! Ever since the 2.00 patch my PS3 has been freezing after a minute or two into a race. I tried deleting and re-installing the game data (haven't re-installed the 8 gigs though I had when this started to happen) and no dice.

I downloaded recently the GT500 Stealth Car and maybe that's the reason why this has been occurring? But I don't think so honestly. If you guys have ANY suggestions at all please tell me because I'm crazy to get in and spend those 12 mil I have laying around :indiff:

Clear your cache, clean your disc. If all else fails, your PS3 may be going out the window.

Yeah? Well I don't have the money to trash it.

Besides I've been playing GTAIV, BFBC2, MW2, Burnout, Skate, Mirror's Edge etc. and no issues... So I don't get what's the problem. I will do what you said about clearing the cache and disc. Hopefully that will fix it. Will update this soon.

Check the temp if it's hot turn it off and let it cool down before you get the YLOD. Trust me it happened to me a while back with GT5 it uses alot of computing power.

Well it has A LOT of space for the PS3 to have air. It sit's on the ground in a vertical position. I've noticed it's way cooler when in a vertical position than a horizontal one. But just in case I'm cleaning the vent's right now.

Any other suggestions? Sorry for bumping. I really wanna get back and play GT5.

Could be a dirty/scratched disc if everything else works.

btw I recomend backing up your save to a USB just in case it does die.

There is an update for the ps3 , check for an update sony says it help you with the freezing things .

good luck

If you have access to another disc can you try doing that?

I'm installing at the moment the 8GB data of GT5 but afterwards I'm gonna do that firmware update and hopefully my GT5 won't freeze after 1 minute into a race.

And my disc is clean. No scratches. Fingerprints. Nothing. I can take pics and all.

I just updated the firmware. Tried everything you guys said except the trying someone else's disc. I'm pretty disappointed because now I don't know what do do.

You could go as far as reformatting your ps3's harddrive. Sometimes data that the PS3 has mingled all up can interfere with games. My friends ps3 messed with Katamari a lot untill he did a full reformat. If that doesn't work or another GT5 disc. New PS3 time as it could have a problem with registering certain information correctly.

Well I bought the PS3 a year and about 8 months ago and I have to buy a new one already? That's BS... I guess I'm gonna go format my harddrive then. I just wanna get back on the track again. Damn 2.0 ****ed up my game.

Reformatting is a last resort mate. I wouldn't advise doing that until you've explored and eliminated all other possible causes.

I am having this issue with borderlands. It's a hard drive issue. If you have the cash get a new hard drive. You can try doing a reformat, but with my experience with borderlands, a reformat wont work. I have yet to buy a new hard drive to confirm the fix though.

I used to have faith in sony but i'm on my 3rd PS3 right now

kind of embarrassing, I used to brag about its reliability

Ok , here is one last idea , delete everthing you dont need in your ps3 and in gt5 ( photos songs ... bla bla bla ) .

it might help you , the really last thing you should do is format your ps3 and that option is the cure of all problems .

What BGM are you using?

You should go back to the default in-game BGM, before you do anything else. That one thing fixed my freezing problem.

Hmm... I'm not sure if I'm using some BGM from my harddrive. Funny thing is that it always freezer after 1 minute and about 20 - 30 seconds INTO the race. Never fails. There was only ONE time it didn't froze and I went up to six minutes until I finished the race by quitting. I was in the Top Gear test track with the Red Bull X1 2010

There seems to be a bug since either the V2.0 or the PS3 update or after downloading the Car Track pack.
I and others have stuttering at the race loading screan followed by the game freezing.
It happens to me about every 4 starts.
Posted in the Q&A forum.

Oh yeah. I should've probably posted this in the Q&A instead of here :indiff: but I was talking to Si-UK and I thought about deleting the Spec 2.0 and playing the game offline to see if it crashed. If it doesn't. Then it's definitely the 2.0 patch.

I haven't had any spec 2 problems.

So I tested the game without the 2.0 patch (it feels so empty without it!) and it played marvelously with no freezing at all. So I know as a fact that it is definitely the 2.0 patch. I'm gonna re-download it and see if it works now. No seasonal, online used car dealerships or online gameplay sucks!

Does it freeze only when you race? Or does it do it even when you're making a track or tuning a car as well?

@OP

Maybe you have a defective disc. Seems weird though considering it worked fine at one point.

I felt the same when my fat ps3 stopped reading disks , i also bragged about its reliability , SONY should pay us for being such loyal customers , even after the PSN **** up , losing our credit card informations etc...
