had a big error on laptop

i had a big error last night on the laptop. windows became corrupt, which i think was caused by a bad copy of grand prix 4, so i had to wipe the whole hard drive just to get access to windows xp again. i'm quite upset about it

Haha. Jarrett, not that I've ever pirated anything, as long as you're smart about what you get, you shouldn't have any problems.

it could still be a bad copy, by a bad disc maybe, should take it back and tell them it destroyed your computer, they should exchange it

A bad disc doesn't destroy your Windows system files.

Before you reinstalled windows you should have tried a system recovery in safe mode. The chances are you or somone else deleted a system file or a system file became corrupted. Corrupted system files can remain unnoticed for some time until a piece of software tries to use them and then all hell breaks loose.

that's the thing: i would have done system restore, if i had been able to get into windows. because it was corrupt, there wasn't any way for me to get in, even in safe mode

The Recovery console is different. Instead of hitting Enter, hit R and you type the command to fix what you need.
