EDIT - Nevermind lol, mod can close this and forget it ever exist *has officially lost all patience and heart to even try practicing any more*

That's too bad. Because it was actually a good question.

Well...if anyone wants to know the answer then by all means keep the thread open...*reposting the question for the benefit of others*

The question was, how does one approach a hairpin best when aimming to drift all the way around without -

1 - Not getting enough sideways momentum that you just fly off the outside of the track
2 - Spinning out
3 - Missing the sideways flick all together and just driving straight over the inside brake markers/rumble strip
4 - Losing so much power trying to go sideways that by the time you are...you won't be going anywhere fast

Feel free to answer this anyone, it may not help me now, but after thinking about it it should be answered to benefit any other people having the same troubles

My answers:
1 - Lower speed.
2 - Weaker initiation.
3 - Later initiation?(I probably misunderstood this question)
4 - I really don't understand this, because it sounds like you're using power-oversteer to initiate into hairpins, which is what I don't do.

Hairpins are very hard to drift. I usually would enter with a lower angle, then apply more power only after I past or near the apex, that way, it'll still look cool on the exit, and you still keep some momentum.

I have low skill, so I tend to correct it all with tuning. with camber I usually can drift nicely even with sloppy entry.
1 - use e-brake
2 - reduce front grip or increase rear
3 - reduce rear grip or increase front
4 - make the car very slippy

on the hairpin on grand valley (as you enter the 3in1 drift corner) i normally begin drifting about 5ft before the corner brake point, i kick it sideways then maintain 1/2 throttle when i hit the mid point floor it and correct to exit angle, 9/10 times its successful, try it and see, if you like watch my legacy of.. vid to see it in action
hope this helps

I also seem to have trouble with some lower speed hairpins.
I usually can drift through though, but I was wondering.....
Gran Turismo's is quite realistic when it comes to lap times, but when it comes to comparing to real life and gran turismo 4 regarding the low speed grip of the tires, it's just not right yet. I have way too much grip at low speeds, and as we all know it's near impossible to do initiate a donut, something that isn't very very hard in real life.

Is it because of this that I am still facing troubles with the really tight hairpins? Low speed grip just doesn't feel realistic!! I don't understand how people can drift the gymkhana course's small circle!!!?? Lack of skills???

It's a lot of adapting to the physics engine :)

Keep on doing trial and error. Everytime you do a mistake, stop and think about it for a sec and try something else ;)

hairpins are hard to do, i would try to explain how i do them, but im not sure that i coulld. maybe i will make a video of how i do them on xlink with the wheel showing so you can see what im doing as i go through the corner. maybe ill do that later today.

ok ... this is what i do in a stock toyota supra rz '97...

pre-corner = stay at the outside of the corner ... brake real hard last minute.. let go of the brake and slide into the corner ... and start throthling .. not full though .. or u will spin out

Usually i try to drift like Ryesuke(Spelled Wrong) in Initial D, just feint and throw it sideways prior to the turn, as im sliding straight i slow down a bit and when i get close to the turn floor it then let off and feather it.

Works for me with some of my cars.

hmm, i have nothing to do, i might try to make a couple clips of hairpin drifting.
Like swift said, excellent idea:tup:

yeah, everyones style is different. alotta ppl on xlink say that im fast, but its just the way i am, and the way DD is. we are all pretty fast while we are exhibition drifting.
if widge gets on today, ill prob go run with him. so ill get a clip or 2 of me drifting a few diff hairpins if possible.

i hate to double post, but im afraid my edited post will go unnoticed.
but anyways, i have made a small video from a xlink session on 7/30 with dking.
heres the link to it.

yeah, the lines arent perfect, but we havent played in about a week. so we were a little off. but it still shows more or less how we do it.
if we have a tsukuba session anytime soon ill be sure to record it if its any good, since that track has 3 tight hairpin turns.
also another good place is cote de azure(i think thats the one, ill find out tomorrow) but it has alot of tight turns, not nessecairly(sp, half asleep) hairpins, but they can be tough either way.

Its not technically a double post since they were a couple days apart, a double post would be like 10 minutes apart.

Nice Vid

I have how i drift the hairpins in my new video coming out today or tommaro.

I always hated that corner at Autumn Ring, and you guys totally took it out, good job 👍 I've also hated the tsukuba hairpins, so I'm looking forward to that vid too :)

apricot hill you mean?

I'd say that's one of the easier ones because of the width of the road that gives a load of leeway. But different tracks for different styles I suppose.
