I don't normally indulge in the gossip of F1 but I found this a good read:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/may/06/lewis-hamilton-agent

It's 2010. People are brands. Hamilton is a brand and it's set to progressively skyrocket! Personally, I'm excited and filled with the urge to purchase vodafone and santander products endorsed by the Hamilton brand, and maybe soon wear the fragrance

Hamilton? The only reason I came here was to see if Hamilton, NZ was evolving, 'cause they've got a new street course there..

:ouch:
"Brand" is simply jargon referring to getting a driver's name out there, with sponsors helping his career, such as performing adverts/commericals, etc.

What else is there to say?

Agreed, nothing new here. Many racing drivers secure their seat by bringing sponsorship revenue to the team in which they drive.

From the title, I thought he was turning into a Quilava...

Obviously looking for a sponsor deal with Swan Vesta

I doubt Hamilton has to bring sponsorships with him for a drive. He isn't a rookie pay driver ya'know! Seriously though, he is evolving into a better driver, and i say a better person. Hopefully when he's a couple more years older he's more likeable by some of his detractors. I think him finding a new manager like Hakkinen will do a lot for his personality. But I hope he stays the same, originality is much better than being a sell-out for the media.

He does for a better salary though, all those those Airfix and Santander adverts weren't for McLaren ;). If he wants more money, he has to obtain it personally because McLaren are unlikely to give him much of a raise, not to the extent compared to what he could earn from endorsements and promotions and so on.

Anyway, he still needs a manager to help promote his "brand" if and when he wants to switch teams or racing series.
