My handbrake hardly in working condition. I've heard that I can tighten the wires, however my car has disc brakes in the back, can I still get my handbrake tightened? Because I can only do 180's in the snow right now and I want a better holding handbrake.

Yes, infact you should be able to tighten it up yourself fairly easilly.

Really? even with the disc brakes in the rear, Should I just pop off the little bucket behind my shifter?

Even if your car has discs in the rear there are most likely small drums in the center just for the parking break, on all the cars I've dealt with there has been some sort of adjuster on the hub once the wheel is off. Usually a small star adjuster in between the lug holes or mounting studs.

Follow the handbrake cable from the handbrake to the wheels, somewhere along it there should be an adjustment nut you can rotate to increase tension, before you go taking off wheels.

Eagle Talon, And I did try to follow the line from the rear brakes and it just went up into the car.

Start disassembling the console, you should see a single braided metal cable leading back from the handbrake than move forward when teh handbrake moves. Follow it back until you see it reach a metal plate/splitter thing with two cables heading beck from it to the two rear brakes. On that thing you should see a hex nut which will allow adjustment. just make sure you dont make it too tight so that the brakes are dragging. 3-4 clicks to engage the brakes should be good.

What? Snow and no handbrake?!?! GAAAHHH!!!

Tighten the cable! NOW!

Yeah the handbrake is only good for ass-dragging...

The best idea is to pull the handbrake and put dining hall trays under the rear wheels, then the rear end slides really easily :sly:

When you are RWD you don't need a handbrake to have fun in the snow :dopey:

I was gonna say something along those lines. :)

Or, you could put trays under the front wheels of a RWD car and pretend like you're driving a FWD in the snow...

I've always thought about doing that on my car and making a video of it, like all of those FWD tray videos you find on teh intarweb.

ROTFLMAO  now thats good clean TRUE comedy. Though my old van was front wheel drive and it was awesome in the snow, when it did slide it was always the front
