Handbrake.....

I have a joystick that the spring broke in, and I got to thinking......why not modify it to be like a hand brake? I could make my own case for it, and mount it on the side of my chair. But then I also thought, how could that work in gt4. So that is my question, is it possible to use that and a steering wheel with pedals (DF) in GT4?

I think handbrake is useless in GT4, I've never used handbrake since I started play GT4.

I use handbrake all the time :)
I use it to do 360, 720 or even 1080 spins down the straight of each track, alternating the steering to keep the spin going well, before straightening up and continuing racing. This looks amazing on the replays, and you need to do some cool tricks because the game is so damn easy otherwise. In terms of actually helping lap times, the handbrake isn't useful at all!

I use it when I rally.

The only time it seems of use is in the Rally races, and maybe the Ice races, on the road it just locks the back wheels and you sail straight on into the scenery.

The topic is not about if you use it, but if my idea will work.

I really doubt it will work ... GT4 does not have the "driver" for your joystick + is the USB or how will you connect it to the PS2 ?

Unless you ripped apart your DF, and rewired the O button to make a handbrake lever. But you'd have to know what you were doing.

And what a waste of a DF....

Plus I'm using my friends df.....otherwise I would. lol

I guess my handbrake will only be used for pc games. Or maybe I could make a shifter out of it......hmmm.

you're not wasting it. DF (at least the DFP) comes apart very easily and is pretty straght forward.

wiring a E-Brake to any button would not be that hard.

<i take no responsibility if you blow it up though> 💡

good luck.

oh btw, (at least in my wheels) there is no stickers on the inside that void your War. if broken. so it's safe to open up to take a peek.

<again your wheel may be different and have one. or the plastic may melt in your hands as soon as your open the cover... but mine did not>

i'm still trying to find this "fuse" i've heard about blowing, so i can get my rev1 wheel working.

Tape chopstcks to your ds2 with a lever so that when u pull up it hits the button...instant handbrake.....o and leave it next to you so u can still drive with the wheel....

Actually, you don't need to open up your DF at all. I sawsomeone else do this on the forums, I think what you can do is buy a cheapcontroller, and then take that apart and wire your joystick to that.

But I'm still not sure if you could make that work simply because the axis controls for the joystick may need some sort of processing to interpret the input (i.e. the output from your joystick may not be the same as one of the buttons on the controller)

Hmmm........neat idea. I'll have to save up some money though for the materials.

I have another set of pedals from an old setup I have that I midified to be a clutch pedal for my pc games. It works pretty nice, but I gotta figure something else out since I only have one spring on it. The others broke. lol
