I'll be honest, when you were active I always sided with your foes, for some reason. Maybe it was because of that team orders "problem" with Arnoux at the French Grand Prix, very early in your F1 career. He didn't obey and he was right. It was the French GP, you guys were French, the Team was Renault and he was leading the race.

A few years later, I watched personally you losing the WDC by half a point to your teammate Niki Lauda. I cheered for a number of reasons. First, it was poetic justice after the Monaco fiasco. You should've been satisfied with 2nd place and 6 points, instead of the 4,5 you got. Senna deserved that to be his first win and Toleman would figure now among the teams that won a Grand Prix. To top it all, it was amazing to see Lauda come back to F1 after all those years and grab a 3rd WDC 9 years after his first.

Then the rivalry with Senna. I was never quite the "Senna fan", but when the choice for WDC honors was reduced to a choice between you two he was the one I would pick.

Anyway, Allan McNish retweeted today, the day of your 57th birthday, this video tribute to your career and, although I don't like the cheesy music, I have to say that, no matter who I rooted for back in the day, it is clear today to any F1 fan that looks back that you are and will always be regarded as one of Formula 1 all-time greatest.
