Well it's fathers day and I decided to get my self a driving wheel for a gift ( from my son cause he knows that's what I would want). Wife wasn't too keen on the idea ( shocker) but I'm stoked. So now I have to figure out how to use it best. I'm thinking a fold up card table and padded chair. What kind of mobile contraptions have you all figured out? I have limited space so it has to be compact and easy to put away. Thx ahead of time and happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there.

JKD.

Cheap D.I.Y or Xlerator wheel stand are the best(low cost) options. (IMO)
Which wheel did (your son) get for you?
Happy Fathers Day.

I use a tv dinner stand and a folding chair and it works fine for me cost me 30$ total.

Ironing board.

Don't get the Mrs hopes up when you first pull it out though.

I've got my wheel clamped to a bit of MDF on a pair of saw horses while I'm building my cockpit. Ugly, too high up and uncomfortable, but it works.

I have my DFGT clamped directly onto the kitchen table that my TV is on.
I sit on a bar stool.

Works fine. 👍

Build my own wheel stand. Had a low and comfartable chair standing about and built a construction around it off mdf. So now i have my own wheelstand

I got the logitec GT. Simple and cost effective but I'm going to have to get used to shifting with the stick. Kinda wanted the paddle shifter type, I think the G27 has that. I'll try this though. I like the idea of the xcelerator stand. I'll nave to check the cost.

Just bought the xlerator stand for my wheel. Looks perfect for what I need. I could probably build it but not worth the hastle. Thx for the suggestions.

Congrats on your new wheel, if you are looking for shifter paddles for your DFGT this kit might work for you...definately a cost effective solution.

Don't give up so fast, there is a definite learning curve but in the end the immersion and FFB alone are worth it.

Exactly, when I first got my Fanatec Carrera 911 wheel, I hated it so much that I thought that all the money that I spent on for the wheel and the rig I made for it was wasted. But I decided to give it time as people have suggested here and here I am, loving the wheel and the rig. Never to race with a DS3 ever again. :)

Ok here's the thing, I do like the idea of it. I think in a perfect world I would have the space, money and time to utilize this thing properly . I do think it is cool almost amazing but it's not going to workout and here's why: I live in a Townhouse and space is precious. Yes the Xlerator stand would be pretty good but not perfect. In reality I want a full stand w racing seat adjustability etc. That's not going to happen. 2, my wife says the wheel makes too much noise and I usually play the game after she and the baby go to sleep. 3, it's too much to set up and tear down just for 2 hrs of play. 4, i'm slower with it. I know the learning curve thing but I have just gotten so used to the Dual shock controller that it's intuitive. I guess partly im just not willing to relearn and take that step back. So there ya go. To me it's like buying a Ferrari when you live in a place with no garage...just not right.

@jameskwondo
Everything you just wrote is the reason most people race with a controller instead of a wheel. I agree the wheel doesn't seem ideal for you.
As far as noise every wheel I own is noisy especially my Fanatec set. Of course my Buttkickers are noisy as well.

Thats a pity. When you get used to the wheel it is very different to getting used to a controller. The wheel correlates with your real world driving interface, so the experience is much more engaging. Its the closest you can get to VR, in my opinion.

But if you're waking up the baby thats probably going to be a deal breaker. Unless you get a G27, they're nearly silent!

Well thats a shame, but from what you said sounds like it really isn't going to work out for you.

Personally I have a G25 with a wheel stand pro and it doesn't create that much noise, but I have used the DFGT and it can make quite loud "zip" noises.

In the end, if its disturbing the whole house, its not really worth it.

I'll keep the quiet G37 in mind for the future. Once we move into a bigger house I will definitely look to get the proper set up. I do agree with all you said. Just my current situation. Sad but that's life.
