Hard to drive? Mercedes CLK-GTR AMG

I've tried several tcs and LSD combinations and i really like how fast the car goes and how it takes the turns (at the moment using Duck's tuning for the car), but I can't get the car to grips under acceleration. I just practiced doing 400m sprints for 20 min and reduced my time by 6 seconds using the analog stick, but that's with full concentration. On the track, i have to focus on steering and whatnot, and i can't slowly push the gas and turn sharp at the same time without spinning off the track because the car's too strong. Any tips? would it be bad to put the TCS all the way up, or do i just keep on trying to turn and manage fuel at the same time?

I don't know how long you've been playing the game, amhso but it does take quite a bit of practise to become proficient with analogue control of acceleration and braking with the DS2.

If you've been playing for years and still can't 'get to grips' with it (yeah ... automotive pun :D!) then I'd seriously suggest getting yourself a DFP or even better a G25. The difference is remarkable.

I started out using the DS2 on GT4 and after a while did adapt to the twitchyness of the very narrow-band pressure sensitivity of the analogue triggers for acceleration and braking but never coped with using the analogue sticks for both steering and power inputs (despite having played the game series with the SONY controller since GT1 came out :O).

If getting a wheel is outside your financial scope, then you have no choice but keep practising until you can adapt your driving style to suit. Not the news you want to hear I know ...

I love this car, but you're right, the whole time it's there poking you and saying 'I'm gonna' kill you!' and if you even dare lift off at speed whilst turning... hahaha.

Also - if I were you I wouldnt use Ducks tunings for racing, they're all for Midfield on qualifying tires, all have full on turbos in (The Merc can't handle the turbo upgrades as it's already built to take more power than it should) GT Vault has set ups but I don't know if they'll help you. (I've never used this 'DS2' thing, infact I don't even know what it looks like, is it that silly pad with the wheel on it?)

I drive my GTR stock with the ASM turned off and a small amount of TCS to keep the tires in check.

I was using superhard and hard tires for the car because of endurance races. When I put on supersoft or soft, the grip and turning is better, but acceleration is still losing traction. I've only played maybe a year, maybe a few months on the analog stick. I was thinking of getting a wheel but I'm not sure if I can come up with the $$$. Should I raise the downforce?

I use the Minolta 88C-V now and it has more downforce or something to keep the car on the ground better, but still slips when I'm accelerating and I cant keep up with my opponents.

(I am on manual transmission.)

You might be better off winning the Fuji enduro in the minolta, the nissan you win is much better, though its tire life isn't -as- good.

I've been re attempting the GT Championships a few times now because I lose a lot of time due to tire wear. Also, the R92CP (when it's in the rotation) by half a second to 2 seconds each lap, and then I end up too far behind to catch up.

The fuji 90's is 228 laps! I haven't had time to sit down and do it, nor an extra TV to leave it on B-spec.

I'm not around to keep 3x after the pitstops.

I hate being human. I almost beat the R92CP with the Minolta just now, and at the 9th lap i hit a wall and it passes me.

Is the CLK-GTR fast enough that paired up with a skilled driver could win the GTWC?

Even a JGTC 500 car (Such as the Pitwork Z with tuning) can win the GTWC, I reccomend checking out the race reports, you could find lots of helpful things there.

So B-spec the Fuji enduro while you're sleeping. It only takes five hours or so at 1X speed.

I'll try it tonight.

What I find frustrating trying to win GTWC with the CLK-GTR or the Minolta is that although I gain time on turns and I can pass the AI on turns (without bashing right into them), I can't keep on on straights. The time I gain on cornering is not enough to catch up on the straights. Especially with the slip, I can't hold onto my position for more than 5 or 6 laps.

(I've never used this 'DS2' thing, infact I don't even know what it looks like, is it that silly pad with the wheel on it?)

I would be willing to wager that you hav eused one, just maybe not know it by that abbreviation.

The Dual Shock 2 (DS2) is the standard Playstation 2 controller...

...the one with the built in wheel was the Namco Jogcon...

Amhso, The CLK-GTR race car is a notoriously stiff machine, which (as was already said) will kill you at the drop of a hat. Just make one minor mistake and watch it turn around and blow your brains out. I dare you.

The biggest problem is that it's such a big, stiff chassis with zero flex that it will come unglued at any given time for little to no reason at all. The biggest key (in my limited experience with the car) is to soften/raise the suspension, keep the brakes flexible and put a bit of ballast in the nose.

yeah i just lost in the 4th race of GTWC by .608 because it spun off twice. The first time I caught up by deciding not to take a pit stop and running on orange tires. near the second to last turn, i let go of gas and it just spun.

Would raising the height also help? could the suspension be bottoming out?
