*Friday, August 25, 2006* Tomarrow, Saturday, August 26th is the 29th annual LeMay car show and auction. I highly doubt anyone is interested, but. If your in the Puget Sound area, come see the collection. Info and directions here, http://www.lemaymuseum.org/index.php.
I would like to share with everyone here something that is a local, as well as a national treasure. Harold LeMay started a garbage collection company here in Tacoma Washington in 1942, and is now pretty much the sole refuse/recycling collector in the south Puget Sound. Harolds love for cars also grew into a collection of automobiles well into 3000 cars, trucks, and military vehicles. The LeMay Collection is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest privately owned collection in the world!
Unfortunately Harold passed away in 1998, but his annual open house event still happens every August, just as it has for the last 29 years. The last Saturday of every August he would invite the public to his private residence to see his amazing collection. Between the LeMay estate, and an 80 acre Marymount Catholic military academy he purchased in the 80s (which houses much of the collection). The open house is nothing short of amazing. I wish I had discovered this earlier than 5 years ago when I did. I attend every year, and cant wait for the next. Cars are displayed inside the house, as well as the school. Inside as in, the living rooms, attics, gymnasium, classrooms, everywhere! The cars are generally grouped by make and have the appropriate memorabilia decorating the rooms.

But photos cant even begin to describe LeMay's collection of cars and memorabilia fully capturing the 20th century automobile. If you live in Washington or the Pacific Northwest, this is a can't miss event for anyone who has a passion for automobiles and all things related.
