The main reasson for me to buy a ps3 was GT5 and today my PS3 broke down and I still haven`t played the game I bought it for ,
I`ll try to fix it but if it is too expensive I will buy a new one (I`ll wait to see the new ps3 slim ) I just hope that gt is out soon .

Anyone else with a broken ps3 ??

The heating/cooling system broke in my 40gig -I couldn't fix it, so I bought a new 80gig (luckily my mother paid for it, all my money is saved for when I go on holiday in a week or so).
If you can afford a new one, it gives you peace of mind that it's brand new and not just refurbished.

Laser Broke 9 days ago so couldnt read disks

Its been at fixing for a week, and I phone up yesterday and they tell me they havent started!!!...

:grumpy:

They say they will send back in 5-7 work days... Its 5 today, so...next week

my 60gb ps3 broke by the yelow light of death i sent it to sony and they booked me with an other one in the price of 200euro!!!?The best part is that gt5p was in the console and i dont now when sony is going to send it back:grumpy:

I've had two 60GB models die, the third one seems to be doing OK. Although I rarely use it any more so that might be why it doesn't break .

The warranty is a full year for 40g. I don't know if it differs in other models.

My disc drive stopped working and my brother's own also failed a few weeks later.

The warranty should be for a year. My PS3 is showing no signs of problems, albeit long loading times with GTAIV. Do you guys play a lot?

My 60gb got the yellow light of death. Couldnt fix it so I bought an 80gb instead. My 60gb was very noisy the last few months. I use my PS3 most of my spare time, in some way.

I think that GTA killed mine!!!!! it started freezing so i stoped playing it , then after playing some other games I switched back to GTA again and it started again , then it started freezing with my other games and now I can`t play nothing =(

First PS3 I got ,I had it fr 11 months, then the Blu-Ray lens fried. Sent it to Sony, got it back ,and within a few weeks, the screen kept on freezing randomly, and what do you know, I get the yellow light of death. FML :(

My GTA IV seems to have a problem, in my save game file the music radios don't play well and have some load problemns... i think that is the bu-ray reader... but any other game runs without a single problem, very strange. Is like something is corrupted or something like this. X.x

My launch console died sometime last year. Then the replacement one was failing, but I was able to save it a couple times with the recovery menu. Turns out the hard drive was toast in that one, so I took apart a portable external drive and put that in there. It was a Seagate drive, too. :scared:

I've had my 3rd one die on me a few months ago.

So yeah, "someone" had their PS3 break.

Out of curiosity I opened my PS3 to see what make the hard drive was... About 10 minutes later I had an email confirming my order for a Western Digital replacement. After I swapped the drives over I put the PS3 drive in a portable HDD enclosure, and about 3 days after that the drive was completely and utterly dead...

Also, when my PS3 goes to the great PS3 graveyard in the sky (or the bin, one or the other), I'm not calling Sony about it; I'm going out, provided I have the cash, straight away to buy a new one. I got through about five Sony refurb PS2's, gave up when the last one died and bought a brand new one, and I still have it; that was in 2005, I think. My PS3 is a launch 60gb, one of the ones I've been hearing the YLOD stories about, but where it is now it runs very cool so hopefully it'll be ok, at least until GT5 comes out!

Most interesting. My 60G has died twice. I sent it in after the first failure, the last time I put it away (couldn't bear to trash it) and purchased a 160G. Pre & post repair the 60G lasted less than a year, I've an 80G almost two years old and it seems bulletproof.

I use mine as the DVD & Blu-ray player, but I've heard that you don't want to use it to play the Blu-ray movies on PS3? Something about, with the movies, laser's constantly reading the discs, and it wears out the laser?

I bought a 40GB on November of 2007. Laser went out while playing Team Deathmatch on CoD4, something like June, July in 2008. Everything worked, except it wouldn't read or recognize any discs, DVDs or Blu-rays.

My warranty replacement(it was a year for me) came back, I want to say in couple of weeks? I was so addicted to CoD4, I had to go out and rent a PS3 from Rent-A-Center. :D Also that summer, using the Bush's stimulus money, I bought a X360 arcade pack, so I'd have a backup next time.

I still use my PS3 as a DVD/Blu-ray player, but it's still working perfectly. I blame my PS3 failure on my Blu-ray copy of Lost: Season 3. I also purchased the season 1 & 2 recently, but I am afraid to watch it.

I have a 1st gen 60GB and no problems yet. I have never watched any Blue-ray movies on it and I only play it 8-12 hours a week since I had a baby girl about 2 years ago.

My PS3 has stopped detecting Discs today. Broken Laser or too much dust? Does anyone know how much it would cost to repair it?

Exactly what happened to my 40GB, but mine was still under warranty. I was never told of the cause.

In the U.S., I believe it's $150 + the shipping to Sony. I have no idea how it works in the U.K.
