About a month ago I was able to play UMDs on my PSP. I decided to upgrade the Firmware while I was surfing the web on it. A couple days after the upgrade I tried playing NFS Prostreet and nothing. I tried all my other games and none of them registered on the PSP. I can hear the drive spinning the games but it wont recognize any of them. Today my wife bought me a new PSP3000. I brought it home, charged up the battery, upgraded the firmware then put in a UMD and nothing. Thats when I made the comparison that it could be the new firmware causing them to not read the discs. Has anyone else had a problem similar to this?

May i ask what firmware caused this? This doesn't make since... Unless this "rare" firmware alters the vsh settings so that it ignores the umd.

It seems to happen independently of firmware version and that tells me that it's a hardware problem. If you're getting an error number, let us know what it is.

If it is custom firmware, you need to hit select while at the XMB and change UMD Mode to "M33 Driver -No UMD-".

Also, there is to M33 custom firmware for 3K's. But that doesn't explain why a NEW 3K is not reading discs.

So there are two scenarios here... either the disc(s) is/are incredibly dirty or scratched, or were not getting the whole story.

Mind my asking how you did both at once, or am I reading it wrong? When I do a firmware upgrade it makes it unusable until it finishes, just like the PS3.
