I recently drove the 4H endurance race for Tsukuba Circuit in a Mazda Miata! Since this car is a Premium car, I did also drive through the dashboard view, which of course is 1 of the highlights of GT5!

I realised, whilst in dashboard view, that when the B-spec driver is going to change from 2nd gear into 3rd gear, there is a small glitch in the game!

Before the B-spec driver changes from 2nd gear onto the 3rd gear, the sound depicts that the gear has already been changed! In other words, sound & visuals should coincide but out here the sound overtakes the visual!

The B-spec driver changes the gear a tad 1/2 second later after the gear has changed! All the other gear changes seem in tune but the 2nd gear to 3rd gear change is not a smooth change as far as audio-visual coincidence goes!

I surely believe this is not a glitch just with the Mazda car but with any car having a dashboard camera & it happens during this series of gear changes only! It doesn't make any difference to the gameplay but didn't PD review all their stuff before finalizing it?

We all do believe that GT5 is a wonderful game but these small glitches make you ask to yourself as to why this game couldn't be so much nearer to perfection!

That's because the images from the onboard camera have to be transmitted from the car, to the Atlas sattellite, back to you. Takes a fraction of a second ;)
(Noticed the same, just like watching a Time Trial replay where it also happens)

It's not just B-spec, when you brake for a corner and go down the gears the guy driving doesn't usually expect it so quickly. Only noticeable on sticks, use a paddle shift and it won't bother you.

The animation is super slow for one. Secondly, as soon as you shift, the in-game car should shift, if you had to wait for "you" (the in game driver) to reach out and shift you'd have to time your shifts ahead of time and it would be terrible.

In reality you know when you're going to shift and you move your hand to the lever a second or so before, so you're ready. The little animated driver has no idea when he's going to shift until you tell him, so the animation is delayed.

Not a bug, just the way games work. Though speeding up the animation might make it look better.

Actually when playing in-car view the guy moves his hand over the stick as you approach the redline or your downshift point, in preparation for your shift. I'm sure I've seen this loads of times I'm surprised you haven't noticed.

i noticed when driving the f430 in auto in cock-pit mode, he still goes to change gear as if it was manual, even if it was manual surely he would use the flappy paddle gear change?

i just thought it was wierd.

What you're witnessing is the speed of sound being noticeably slower than light.
The gear changes, but the exhaust note doesn't reach the 'camera' for another half second.
If you watch enough motorsports you will hear this in real life.

Lol, you guys are reading too much into this. It's just slow animation. Watch any replay of premium car and swith to one of the in-car cameras. No matter if you drove automatic or manual or whatever, the animated driver will always shift, and will always perform the action much slower than be should be.

Also keep in mind that when using the automatic shifting mode in GT5, you are not actually using a car with an automatic transmission (in most cases). Automatic simply means that the game will shift gears for you, it's not the car itself that is automatic.

Yeah it would be good if they had like an A4 with multitronic, I'd like to race a CVT

When you use auto in the game it's literally just the game changing for you, that's why you can have auto on cars that IRL aren't auto. In racing you'd never use automatic as it's just not as good as manual in a racing environment.

True, I forgot about that. Though, if you shift when the computer doesn't expect you to, that's when you get the delay between the actual shift and the animation.
