Has anyone here read the "His Dark Materials" trilogy books? For anyone who doesn't know the name of the books they are: "Norhern Lights", "The Subtle Knife" and "The Amber Spyglass".

I've currently got 25 pages pages to go of "The Amber Spyglass"! :sly: I'm going to finish it tonight.

I think the books are simply amazing. The best books I've ever read (I've read Harry Potter, Dragonlance series books ex.). The way Phillip Pullman has written the books with good and evil and different worlds has made it really addictive.

Anyone who has read it, is reading it or wants to please post.

I read them ages ago and they are very good. And amazingly I have re-read them, something I rarely do with any book.

The ending sure was upsetting and depressing. Wish it ended differently.

Did you know there's going to be a movie? There's going to be a movie for each of the books. Here's info on the first movie:

http://imdb.com/title/tt0385752/

There isn't much info on it yet but there should be cast soon. I hope they get the right actors/actresses for the parts.

I've also heard the religious part of the story will be left out because there have been lost of complaints about it. That a shame because I think the religious part of the story is one of the main parts. Oh well... :indiff:

The complaints should be ignored, religion plays a large role, if its your book you have it your way. I still think the book will be far better then the movie.

Here in Canada the first book is called "The Golden Compass." Upon reading this thread I went out to the local Chapters and bought all three...I'll start them soon as I have a few books on my plate already right now!!

I'm warning you now, you'll be addicted after the first few pages. The movie is going to be called "The Golden Compass". It's like with Harry Potter and the Philopeserseesers:confused: Stone. It's the Sorcers Stone over there.

Well the amount of stuff I've got to read is getting ridiculus:
About 20 car magazines and about 10 Dragonlance books.

Car magazines? so dull *shudder*.
It's better than not knowing about cars at all. They have come in handy for me choosing my Dad's last three cars and my Aunties. I've been known as the car freak of the family. :)

Keram, you DO know which site you're posting on, right? I'm willing to bet 80% of the members here at GTP read car magazines (or have gone through a period where they did). They're not dull just because YOU'RE not interested in cars!

Are you still too young to drive? If this is the case maybe you'll change your mind once you get a license and get behind the wheel.

BTW, do you play GT3 or GT4? You absolutely CAN'T play the games without liking cars at least a little!!

I've read the first two, both excellent books... and I started on the third one, but something came up, I put it down, and haven't hda the time or will to pick it back up again... very busy person with lots to do and places to be.

And Keram... ya sound like me before I could drive... I couldn't tell a Honda from a Toyota.. and I couldn't care...

And now look at me :D Biggest Toyota nut job around :p

Anyone here read Philip Pullmans 'The Wishlist'?
Nope, never read it.

Anyway I'm too young to drive but I know lots about cars (thanks to the magazines). I could probably drive properly without being shown.

Anyone else read them or is interested?

There hasn't been much more info on the movie. There's been no progress in ages. :(

I've read them. Liked them a lot too.

Another series I really enjoyed reading was the "The Wind on Fire" by William Nicholson. You should try checking it out. 👍

I hope the film's good (if it comes out).

I have indeed read The Wishlist, excellent book, all of Eoin Colfer books arre excellent.

I have also read all of the Philip Pullman books not just the "His Dark Materials" trilogy.
