There is so much confusion, first they say that only race cars will have damage, than they say about 170 cars will have damage, did they at one point confirm FULL damage for ALL cars? Because otherwise I don't see how GT5 is even a competitor for Forza 3. It's been 5 years and all we are getting is GT4 with pretty graphics:ouch:

They say 170 cars will have PREMIUM damage, interior damage.

All cars will have 'damage' but it's just mostly mechanical and a little cosmetic, but none of us have seen the full damage model.

How are you going to say GT4 with pretty graphics? What would FM3 be? FM2 with the same graphics, same physics, and a couple more cars... that are locked or you have to pay for. Good comparison.

Only race car will have full cosmetic and mechanical damage, production car will have full mechanical damage but limited cosmetic damage (scratches on body panel) .You won't see a Ferrari Enzo running around with door fallen off. You can search for the TGS demo on YouTube, it pretty much gonna be like that (they tweaking the damage for the final game but they haven't show any video on that yet).

i would prefer no visual damage at all than only scratches, it has the ugliness of the damage without the fun of watching the bumpers/spoilers hanging and falling off

Why do they think this is a good idea?? I don't buy into the licensing BS, if Forza and other games can have full damage, why can't PD... because they are lazy that is why, they built 1000 cars and now realized it would take too long to implement it on all of them.

FM3 is still a huge step up from FM2, and it's only the 3rd game in the franchize vs the 5th and it wasn't 5+ years in development

I don't think so, Kaz said that he wants to do it perfectly and GT5 will have this "real time" damage. I wouldn't say PD were lazy.

How many cars does Forza 3 have? About 400.. OK. Gran Turismo 5 will have around double the amount of cars, and they will look also two times better than Forza 3's. They have a physics engine which will probably be the greatest ever developed for console sim.. Heck, they even helped out with a friggin real life super car. So many countless hours of research Kaz and the PD team have done and you call them lazy. I can go on and on.. but why should I?

No, you are wrong. PD have stated that if they are going to do damage, they will do it properly. Meaning that many different factors effect what the final damage outcome is going to be. In most games, you will find that if you continue to crash the same car, it's going to get to a point where it looks the same as every other time you crashed it. Each and every impact is different and PD wants to integrate this. This means that each vehicles speed, construction materials and design, point of impact, angle of impact, direction of impact etc etc comes into play. You cannot simply state that 'Forza ish better cosh it ish' without having the facts. This is not a thing of lazyness.

Contradiction FTW!

Good question.

Nothing has been confirmed for damage other than its going to be 'real time' and that there will be mechanical damage for all cars.

We havn't actually seen the damage model, Polyphony have not revealed it publically yet. We saw a ~6 months old build at TGS which showed doors coming off and such, but that was an early model.

But if Cosmetic damage is more important to you than accurate mechanical damage then you should be playing Burnout. Like someone said above, Forza 2 to Forza 3 was only a small jump in graphics, content and physics, but a big step back for online and such. But to compare GT4 to GT5 when GT5's code was written from scratch is pathetic.

Anyway, its the least i expect from a new member who is clearly a Forza fan. (who has only made 2 posts, both in this thread, so clearly created the account to troll. Wouldn't be the case if he asked the question without mentioning Forza.)

As GT5 is going to be a huge step up from GT4. PD has been around the block and it shows.

For all we know, PD's idea of limited damage might still be pretty extensive.

True, but not only that:

He mentioned FM3 didn't take 5 years, it took approximatley 2 and a half. Thats because they had well over double the staff working on it. When GT5 turns out to be the better game with over double the content, better quality content, and actually took less development time per person working on the project that Forza 3, then we will see whos laughing :sly: (Oh and Turn10 didn't work on several other projects at the same time)

For all we know, PD's idea of limited damage might still be pretty extensive.

In terms of visual damage i think we shouldn't be too optimistic. Mechanical damage seems to be the focus for Polyphony Digital. I wouldn't have it any other way :) (i mean all you see in the demos are bumps and scrapes, there has to be something good underneath to make up for it)

We dont know at this stage what will happen with damage. People are just extrapolating from some very limited data.

We already have multiple threads for this topic. So, before this little flame war you started gets out of control...
