If so I may have found your problem and can solve it!
Recently (since the latest update 1.07) I found that I can race online no problem, but god forbid if I wanted to race lets say, offline in a practice or special event or just about ANY race in GT Life.
So after doing a bit of research (and reinstalled ALL the game data) I come across a thread somewhere on another site that the reason is CUSTOM BGM during races.
Thought what I dont understand is that it was working fine before the update, so what changed?
Anyway, if you are having this problem simply turn off Custom BGM and you should be fine.

Yeah I had this exact same problem, was definitely the cbgm. shame, I had the chain on loop as well :) plz fix PD!
 
I have not experienced any freezing issues with custom bgm, but I have noticed my PS3 is getting a lot louder lately. :( Sign of things to come.
 
I had the same problem, and after asking here, I found out it was the CBGM. It kinda sucks, as i like having my own music. But if it lets me play, then no problem. It would be nice to see PD fix this though.
