Have you ever watched Top Gear? In the last series they managed to destroy around 30 caravans. I think the pic you posted came from Top Gear as they did that in one of their episodes.

The one getting towed by the Norris Designs Evo VII was pretty cool. 125mph and the side blew out, lol. Especially good when then dropped the caravan from a crane:D

The Top Gear logo at the bottom right of the pic is a bit of a giveaway. :)

I don't mind people busting up caravans, it is a good laugh. But I don't agree with some of the comments people make against caravaners.

To be honest, I think they are unsafe ... They frequently tip over! I have seen countless accidents involving caravans. They also hold up traffic and seem to be driven by over-cautious pensioners with under powered cars.

Another thing, do caravans have to pass safety tests? Apart from the new ones, some of these things look like death traps with underinflated tyres on them.

The way caravanning should be ...

I'll defend the Caravan to my death!

We get a lot of huge ones on the highways, but never small ones like the Brits seem to be complaining about. I do hate a lot of camper-trailer drivers, though. When semi (tractor trailer, lorry) drivers are instructed, one of the very basic things they must learn is that they are a road hazard and they're expected to drive as such. Camper-trailer drivers, with large diesel pickup trucks typically, never get this instruction and consequently drive as if they're simply carrying a payload in their truck. Mirror extenders seem to be optional, as does keeping right. This is kind of unfair though - many camper-trailer drivers are rather cautious, but the bad ones can be scary: those things are very big.

Point one. So are younger drivers. But I don't see people blowing them up.
Point two. I think frequently is exaggerated. In teh many times i have driven along motorways. On holiday and the fact I use the M4 almost daily I think I have only seen one over-turned caravan.
Point three. Many caravans travel at 55/60mph on motorways. Large haulage trucks travel slower than caravans.
I haven't seen many peopel driving with under powered cars. I nomally see 1.8 4 drs. My family have a 2.4ltr 8 seater 4dr.

Yes we do. But there are also alot of people who prefer to be nearer a beach than the city centre. Caravans provide a cheaper alternatice to hotels and travel lodges.

Sorry if I seem very defensive over this. But my family have had a few holidays in our own caravan. Although this year we were in a static caravan and teh year previous on holiday in Florida I still feel the need to defend the tin-tent as we call it.

I was talking about caravans being unsafe, not the drivers. High winds make the caravans tip over. But most of the drivers seem to be older rather than younger.

I hardly travel on motorways in England, but when I have there have been many accidents involving caravans being blown over or those that have jack knifed.

IMO, a 1.8 4 door is underpowered, never mind one towing a caravan. It's the torque figure that counts when towing. That's why most cars towing caravans are diesels. I would disagree with the truck statement too. They will happily go along at 70mph (even though they shouldn't) and be_a lot_more stable than a car towing a caravan.

Erh... that looks like an RV, not a Caravan or any of its cousins. (Voyager, T&C)

lol, yeh, ofcourse, topgear is my fav carshow, lol, i never got to see last ep, other than, i kno, they did drop a caravan from a great height! it was awesome, u don't realise how frail a caravan is, it just smashed to pieces on the tarmac...lol, new series of topgear coming this october i thinks, YAY!:]

what they did also, they played darts with crappy old cars, old vauxhall cavaliers, i think sum fiats in there, they had like 3 cars each, a giant painted dartboard on the bottom of a quarry, they were on top of this quarry, with a giant pressure thing device, and launched them, to try n hit giant dartboard, lol, and at the centre, was a caravan, was hit, by a flying old volvo 340 haha!

what, what u mean an RV?, whatever, this wasn't meant to be serious dammit, its just a joke thing, i dun mean what i say, jeez, please, take it easy, i just hate caravans, i never will like them, i do not care for statistics, or anything, i just find blowing up stuff cool...and really i cudn't care less. just post a pic of a caravan blowing up! and smile =] top gear have dedicated themselves to been an anti-caravan organisation, lol, and so they shud be! my friends here hate caravans, i hate them, and in my mind, shud be blown to pieces, they are mostly used by damn pikies and gipos (ok gipos and pikies, same thing, but just as annoying, especially where i am living). sure, i have been on holiday in a caravan...and i hated every minute of it, its uncomfortable, pointless, not fun...i want my vengence!
and thanks for that link PSZeTa =]

A Caravan is what the British call a travel-trailer. Not a Dodge Caravan.
We call 'em RV's :D

Also, daan, your 'caravan' does come in Gasoline form:
Class 'A' (Bus)

Class 'B' (Full-sive Van/Truck conversion)
mw-ext.jpg

Class 'C' (Midsize-to-Minivan/Light Truck conversion)
