I left my digital camera outside and it got rained on.
I did a quick Google search and one site suggested to not try switching it on, removing the battery and memory card, dry it thoroughly, put it in a sealed box with some packets of silica gel, and leave it for a few days. That way it'll soak up all the moisture and you minimise the chancing of shorting something internal when you switch it on eventually.
How water resistant is the typical digital camera and are my odds of it working properly when I eventually turn it on good? It was a birthday present and I'd hate to think that I've killed it by doing something stupid like leaving it in the rain.
BTW, It's a Canon Digital IXUS 430.
