Have people been getting somewhat similar real world lap times?

BAC Mono, What a beast!! My favorite car in the whole wide world. First car and only car I used in game since Gran Turismo doesnt have it. Was not disappointed. Although im having ffb issues, this car turned in some wickedly fast laps on Laguna Seca. I think I was in the high 1:26's after only a couple of feeler laps (and still making lots of mistakes). That's full on race car times right? How close have people been getting to real world times? I guess it is basically a road legal race car...lol

Is it possible this car can go that fast?

If you're somewhat similar in pace to real world professional (alien fast) drivers, then maybe! If you're Captain Slow however, maybe not so much!
