Has anyone else heard of this? It looks like it's the beautiful lovechild of Steel Battalion and Phantom Crash (the best game you've never heard of ) on F2P and browser-based.
Hawken Official Site
There's some pre-alpha build gameplay videos on their site that should give you a good idea of what the game hopes to be. Take a look.

They are currently accepting applications for the closed beta that should start this fall sometime.
Sign up for the beta
If you're going to sign up, please us the link I posted here and not the one on their site. The reason I ask this is because I am a selfish 🤬 and they keep track of who referred you to the beta by issuing unique links to everyone, and that's my unique link.

Anyways, yeah. Check it out.

Crisp graphics, nice visuals and a good viewpoint. Shame I've got no PC. Looks like the Mech FPS game is growing up.

This game and a few others, like Hard Reset, really amaze me; to think an indie developer can create graphics like that on a presumably much smaller budget than most good looking games such as BF3 had is just astounding. They had a teaser trailer for this a while back which was supposedly in-engine and I just couldn't believe it, there was just no way an indie dev could produce something that good looking, but it appears I was wrong! I can't wait to see how this turns out.

I read a preveiw about it. If a FPS mech is what one desires then this seems great. I get the feeling of piloting an exoskeleton from KZ3 in this vid. That's cool and all, but a whole game with that? I love Armored Core 4 and especially Armored Core: For Answer, but those are different games. Those are about customization of looks, weapons and parts to tackle missions the best way. That's what they do great. This seems too first person shootie to me and too similar to all other games like that. The "mech" part is mostly a HUD skin it here it seems.

In the Alpha, there's already a good amount of options in this department, so that at least looks like it will be ok. It's not on the level of AC, but what is?
What definitely is present and well done is the rock-paper-scissors element of the different mechs and parts. Each mech has some options in its build for offensive and defensive balance. These work really well when built to aid each other, and also work well for niching your build to your playstyle. I would say more, but the NDA is pretty strict and I don't want to say too much.

There is a definite feeling in this game of piloting a big mech. Movement is pretty slow unless you're on the (limited) boost, and the whole experience is pretty well built to give you that feeling. It doesn't really come across in the videos, and I was worried about that too, but now that I've played it, I can say that it doesn't just feel like an FPS with mech skins.

^Yes not bad. Tried it a bit. For a F2P it's awesome.

Nice heavy feel to the mechs.
