HDD Enclosure

I am just about to replace my PS3 HDD, but I don't know what enclosure to buy to put my old 120GB HDD from my PS3. There are some on ebay.com for around $5 and some on newegg.com for $15. Now my question is, does it matter what brand of enclosure I buy since all it does is read and write files on it? :dunce:

No it doesn't really matter which enclosure. What matters is the connection provided; USB, Firewire 400/800, eSATA, Mini USB, etc. Make sure your computer has the connection port available (or now may be a good time to get that eSATA card!). I'd go with something from Newegg over eBay when it comes to electronics. I don't recall off-hand how the PS3 formats a hard drive, so you will need to delete the old partition scheme, create a new one and format it (this can all be done easily in the Disk Management Console in Windows, or the Disk Utility on a Mac).

Thanks Jerome. I might go with newegg since that's where I bought my 750GB hard drive for my PS3 Slim. So I've done most my research and I believe eSATA has the fastest read/write/download speeds. Thanks for you're help! 👍

now it's USB 3 which is faster but esata is also great. I'm still using esata.

Did you thought about docking stations for the hdd. I don't by external HDD anymore. Only nacked HDD and than put them in the docking, i can swap them and have a lot of them for a lot of storage.
