I've had my Launch 80gig PS3 sense it came out. I've played on an HDMI cable for the past few months off and on. I've never had a problem. Today, My HDMI output stopped working. the AVI cable works perfectly fine (White, Yellow, Red) without any problems. But the HDMI does not. I tried switching HDMI cables to the one I use for my Direct TV reciever, but that had no effect eather. I tried swapping from AVI to HDMI from the ps3 output settings, I also tried just plugging in the HDMI cable without the AVI cable pluged in, same result.

Is the video card failing? I really don't want to send this out to sony right now.

Thanks!

the hdmi input on your tv works with other devices?

If yes, you have probably fried the hdmi port on the ps3.

Hdmi port can brake relativly easy.
I fried one on my AVR
Have you had a little blue spark coming out on the hdmi when connecting?

Not that I can see, but I have all beefy HDMI cables which I can't really see that well when putting in the cable. How long does it take to get a PS3 back from sony when you send it out? I'm thinking its my only option.

Put your HDMI cable back in. Press and hold the Power Button for a few seconds until you hear a second *beep.* That should reset the video output back to HD. If not, something's wrong. Call Sony first for help before asking to send it in.

Awwwwwww
I was going to post this just now as it was too late when I first thought of it :(
But yeah, try this 👍

Yup tried that one. I also tried getting a number for Sony but no luck, I did throw an Email in to them and will send it out on wendsday.

I would say there is more chance you could have damaged the socket on the PS3 due to your "beefy cables". For the record "beefy cables" are of no benefit at all when using HDMI as it is a digital cable so you dont get the same degridation that you do using analogue. The only thing you should ever look for with an HDMI cable is suppressors on each end and 3/4 layers of shielding. Some compnaies stipulate the HDMI version that the cable will work with but this is primarily down to the equipment rather than the cable. The current version is HDMI 1.4. Make sure you have both bits of equipment on this version and you should be fine.
I would suggest testing a different HDMI component to test not only the cable but also the socket on your screen.

I had tried using the same cable with my Direct TV box and it worked perfectly fine. Thanks.
