Hi all,

I'm round at a mates house at the moment. He's just got a top laptop with an 1080 HD screen, blue ray player, and HDMI output.

He has an HD LCD TV, but it's quite old. The only HD input it has is Component.

We need to find a way of converting the HDMI output to Component input. Google hasn't been much help so far (although I am a bit too drunk to be patient with it!).

If anyone could give me any pointers it'd be awesome.

UK delivery sites if possible.

Oooh! I just read that to him and he said "I have DVI!"

So he does! Is DVI Hi Def?

If so, that is a valid option. Thanks! :)

I might be mistaken, but it should be HD unless it's a DVI-A. All others should handle HD just fine.

DVI-I is the original connector

DVI-A: from digital to analog

DVI-D: Digital to Digital. Found on digital tv, monitor etc...

If I put my PS3 through my standard 19" DVI computer monitor (HDMI to DVI) whats the highest I can output? Can it do 1080p?

Robin

Only if your DVI input is a DVI-D (see picture below) and if the resolution of your monitor is at least 1920x1080 hence the 1080p!

ahh, thanks for the picture, I will check later when Im not using my PC monitor, I guess any resolution it will display will be better than SD...

Be sure that you have a pc monitor that has DHCP support. Otherwise it will not work.

^ Exactly. I run PS3 at 720p on a Dell computer monitor using a HDMI > DVI cable. But make sure you have a way to get sound as well!

Component will go 1080i, though it is my understanding that 720p can be better for most applications (especially gaming.) Sorry I can't be of much help...
