Hi

I used search, seraching DVI and found nothing and i couldn't relate this to any other threads.
Anyway what i want to know is if you use a hdmi to dvi cable can you get sound through the multi-av out?
This is important for me when i get a ps3 because i will be using my pc monitor (samsung 940MW) which has dvi with hdcp. But that obviously means no sound through the dvi because dvi don't carry it.

With OS Version 1.32, in the audio output option you can select HDMI, Optical, or Multi-AV output. So I would say yes you can, but of course you would have to choose Optical or the Multi-AV output as your audio output option.

That is one of the beauties of the PS3. You can hook up a HDMI/HDMI>DVI lead, a component/composite lead with stereo analog out and optical out all at the same time and choose which one you want. No need to swap leads, it's all in the menu.
Now I just need a new amp to get uncompressed LPCM from the PS3 (via HDMI).

So its very simple to plug the PS3 into the DVI port of a 19" LCD PC monitor and you will get HD right? Im not to bothered if its not total 1080p at the moment...

Then for the sound use optical out to component...

Is the monitor's native resolution 1920x1080? If it's not, it will be hard to get 1080p out of it.

Cool thanks guys.

At least i'll get 720p out of my monitor as it is a widescreen. That is heaps for a 19 inch anyway. It can also do 1080i but i'm not usre if it does it through the dvi port. I know it does in component though. Now all i have to do is wait till March or even April to get a PS3 assuming they don't sell out which i doubt if they keep the riduclous AU$999.95 price tag here in Australia. What a rip, and the People of USA are whinging about paying US $600.

1080p on 19" monitor probably isn't going to make games look much more impressive than 720p but I guess it's nice to have (if you can have it).
