That ebay listing will not work. It's just taking HDMI and wiring it up to RCA. There is no digital to analog conversion so it relies on the fact that the device can convert the signal.

This device actually converts the signal to analog. I've read some good reviews from amazon and it should work well for the price.

I've been trying to find reviews on that Legend converter and I can't find any. I also notice in the photos they don't show a power port. I'm not sure on that converter.

What game are you recording?

I ask because almost all games have a replay feature, and a save replay feature. You may be able to just grab the raw footage from that in full HD quality, and render it down yourself through an editing software (Like Sony Vegas)

That's pretty much the same thing isn't it? But looks like something that I want. I just hope it works.
My plan is to plug the easycap into pc, plug easycap into that converter, run multi RCA from ps3 and into converter, might need spliters for this. And run a hdmi from converter to my monitor. Also my monitor has 2 hdmi outputs. Should I leave the hdmi from ps3 to monitor or do I have to remove it if I do the easycap-converter set up?

Thanks for that info nick. I'll have a look at that link when I get home. How much is that device in your link? I don't really want to go spending too much.

It's about $58 with shipping. Though these ain't cheap anyways.

You should get a HDMI splitter so one goes to the monitor and one to the converter. That way you can run the RCA cables to the easycap recorder. The one I linked to cost about $20. The cheap unpowered ones are not worth it(they only display one image since you amplification to make a second image from what I understand). Also add a HDMI cable if you don't have a spare.

It is turning costly but the little bit extra should be worth it when you got it all setup. Pretty much HDMI --> HDMI splitter ---> First cable goes to the LCD Monitor and the second cable goes to the Converter ---> RCA cables from the Converter to the Easycap Recorder ---> EasyCap Recorder USB plug to your PC to record the video.

Thanks nick, I'll check that 1 out. I just that when I buy these products they all do want I want it to do lol. Surely I'm not the 1 st person to do it like this but I can't find anything on YouTube or the net. :(

I've rang around town to try an find a hdmi spliter but no one has heard of 1 lol. I could just order it on line. But I've thought of another idea!! I'm just going to buy the easycap, and when I race online I'll just save the replay. Then when I've got a few replays I'll just bring the TV into the study, hook it all up and capture it that way! Ta- da! Lol
I dont need to record while playing and this way I don't have to play in SD.

What do you think about that nick?

Thanks for all your help too. I much appreciate all your feedback mate.g

Just think though. If Kaz and PD had managed to include the Youtube uploading feature as they said they would, you wouldn't need to be shelling out any money.

The very least they could do is to make the replay files viewable on a PC (MP4 or avi files).

No, no, no, man. The splitter lets you play in HD on your monitor with one HDMI cable while recording from the other HDMI cable through the converter to RCA.

I have an EasyCap, it cost me $10.

Let me put it this way, it is $10 I wish I could have back.

The recording is too low in FPS and the files that are made are VERY messy. It only records analogue, instead of HD, meaning that the files aren't very crisp, and they're not clear at all. I used it for 15 minutes then gave up.

If you really want to record something special, and want it as a long-term investment, go out and purchase a Happauge or Black magic recorder. They're $200-300 and are amazing. I will very soon be purchasing one of these to record PS3 game-play. It is a VERY good spend, but it is something you have to commit too.

As I said before, GT5 records in a format that I am 90% sure you can save to your HD and put it on your computer. I know I could do this with Gt4, so I don't know why it wouldn't be in Gt5.

I was going to get a huappuage when I was in the US but decided not too. I know the easycap is SD and that's ok. Im not really fussed about it really. Maybe down the track I'll get the HD but...
I'm nit going to do special edits and that stuff so I should be ok.

I've tried to play the replays on PC but you can't. I've googled it and people have said it's not suported.

I'll see how I go with the easycap . Just wouldn't get my money worth from the 200-300$ hd unit. As I don't know what I'm doing as it is lol.
Thanks for your feed back btw.

Okay.

One more quick thing, you may want to get AV splitters and AV extension cables, the cables they supply are very short. Also, you're going to have to play in SD instead of HD, so, if you're used to the pretty HD picture, then I suggest starting to get used to it now.

I've fit the av cables just have to get the spliters I'll just save the replays so I can still play I'm HD and then I'll record them in SD. :)

Thats right. :ouch:
I forgot you were recording, well, recordings, I bought mine to record live CoD gameplay.. Didn't work out too well.

Which EasyCap are you getting? Because there is a white one and a black one, and there's a lot of speculation that the black one is fake. (I have a black one)

Ooooo. I brought the black 1 lol. The Dc06+. it's supposed to be the good 1. I guess I'll find out next week lol.

There are settings you can change it too, so it looks HD, I suggest getting some footage and mucking around with the settings for a bit.

If you have ordered the same one as me, then you should also recieve the software you need to record, it looks... well i'll leave impressions up to you.

Anyway, you said you weren't fussed, so I won't contiunue to ramble on. :sly:

That ok. It's all useful info that your giving me. He sent me links in an email about what to use etc. I'll post what he sent me tomorrow.

If you don't receieve a disk, and you're unable to record, I may be able to give you mine. Depends where in Melbourne you live.

It says it comes with all the mumbo jumbo so there should be 1. I'm from the northern suburbs. Are you from Mel too?

I'm confused. Why do you want to buy an HDMI to RCA converter? Why not just use the standard AV cable? I have an EasyCap device. Here is some footage with a bit of cropping and upscaling.

He has a monitor he uses to play GT5 with and wants to use the same HDMI connection while still being able to record from HDMI through the converter since the PC monitor would not have RCA inputs. This is the reason why he is going through the process of getting so many different devices.

As I read he wants to record some replays , not really anything live. The best and cheapest option would be get an EasyCap device. Plug the standard AV cable in the PS3 and EasyCap device. Plug the USB in the PC. Have the PC and PS3 connected to the TV by HDMI. If you want to record anything on PS3 just switch to AV mode through XMB, turn on PC and record PS3 SD footage. Put in full screen mode if you want to record live SD footage. I don't get why would anyone want to buy an HDMI to RCA converter to do just the same thing unless I'm missing something obvious?

Cause he's playing on a monitor, not a TV. It doesn't have the same amount of outputs that a TV has.

@Mon, I am from the East. :P Yes, I am from Melb.

I know this but his monitor has two HDMI ports which is all he would need like I mentioned in my above post. No need to get an HDMI to RCA converter.

I'll just be recording the replays. I don't care about recording live footage. I'm nit getting the RCA to hdmi converter. So yeah I'll be doing it the way you said.

I'll have to get the small TV from the bedroom when I set it all up to record a replay. Is what your saying that I don't need to do that? I think it's the only way without getting the hdmi to RCA converter. If you know a way o can use my monitor to do it then id like to know. :)

The way I'm saying will allow you to both record live footage and also replays. The small TV thing will not work unless you can split the av out on your PS3 so it gives out two outputs. I don't know why you want that hassle as you really will not see any benefit from doing so and I don't see really any reason for it. You can just view what you are capturing directly from what your PC is outputting on your monitor through HDMI. The signal from the PS3 goes into the EasyCap device and will show up on your PC display which you can see in full screen and also record.

The only thing you would require is switching from HDMI out to AV Out on your PS3 XMB whenever you want to record something live or just a replay. Then just turn on your PC and open up the program you use for recording to see the AV output from your PS3 on your PC.

Basically all you need is your PS3 and PC connected to the monitor with HDMI cables, the AV cable also connected to the PS3 and that plugged into the EasyCap device which is then plugged into your PC via USB cable. So all you need to buy is the EasyCap device and you should be good to go for live and also replay recording in SD as you should already have the other cables.
