Alright so I have about a $1000 saved up for a new TV, obviously I want to go HD and I want to get something bigger then my 23" off brand SDTV right now. I'm thinking 32" -34" since my room isn't that large. I don't really know anything about HDTV's so the whole 720 vs. 1080 thing is all a bit Greek to me. I know we bought a 62" 1080p TV for our living room but my dad basically said give me the biggest TV for under $3000.

I will be hooking my 360, PS3, and Wii up to it, I have no desire to hook my computer up. I will be watching Blue-Ray movies. I will be hooking up an HDTV Comcast cablebox (possibly AT&T depending on what my parents decide) and a DVR. I do not have surround sound.

I don't really need a flat panel as the TV is going on a stand.

So any help would be appreciated, also any ad-ons the electronic store needs to screw me out of to get the best looking TV set up.

Sharp AQUOS 32" 1080p FTW

I saw this TV at Circut City a month ago for $1000. I've had it for most of this year and I love it. It looks great with Dish network HD channels. I don't have a PS3 yet so I can't comment on the gaming side of it.

Also, seeing as it's nearly Thanksgiving, be sure to search for Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.:
;)

That said, from your description, and needs, I don't think having the best possible picture quality is your highest priority, and in most cases, you wont benefit from the advanced processing and features the better HD displays like the better Sharp, Sony, and Samsung models have so no sense wasting money where you wont get the benefit from it.

If 32"-34" is the range, I wouldn't personally spend more than $600 on a TV. Also, while there are advantages to 1080p, at that size and price point, you may be happier saving some money and buying a 720p display.

As far as flat panel, that is pretty much going to be your only choice, unless you want to get a CRT, which I would definitely recommend against if you are in fact going to be using it primarily for gaming and HD movies.

Now you could get a 46" RPTV that would have some depth to it, but that would exceed your size limit by quite a lot, although cost wise, you can get these for under $1,000.

Cool thanks, I know Costco is going to be having some epic sales here soon and I think I might be able to get the best deal there.

If I didn't have to work I would be in line Friday morning to get an awesome deal. Although my mom is crazy and goes out during black Friday, maybe she can just get it for me.

I guess I should update this since I bought a TV yesterday and I don't know how many of you saw it.

It's a 40" LCD Sony Bravia 1080p model KDL-40V2500. It's bigger than I had planned on getting but it was a good dealer $1499.99 and I had a 12% off coupon if I put it on my Best Buy Mastercard. It was worth it. Gaming in HD is phenomenal, I've particularly liked playing Mass Effect since the worlds look amazing. I'm also glad that I have a PS3 now since I have been watching Blue Ray films on it as well, the best looking one so far is the Blue Planet series I got for xmas.

I have yet to hook my computer into it but I think I will be putting my laptop on it so I can browse the internet from the comfort of my Lazy Boy. I don't expect it to look great but I'll have to see.

Anyways here is a photo of it.
