Head tracking: working only in EASY arcade mode?

Hi.

Yesterday I bought a PlayStation Eye, and after two hours to get the "correct" config, it works only in the easy level from arcade mode (appart time trial mode).

I think once I've gotten it to work in professional mode, but must product of my imagination, because I don´t get to work in intermediate and professional again.

Is this a fail for everybody, or is any kind of bug who needs to make something (or a patch to solve)?.

Thanks in advice for your responses, and if is here any threat talking about this, please refer me, because I don´t got it using search.

Last thing I heard about this is that head tracking was disabled because it will make the pit crew look bad. That would mean that head tracking is disabled for every mode that allows for pit stops. I don't know whether this is true, but it sounds possible.

Not true, you can still move the camera manually left and right when sitting in the pits waiting.

I claim you can't, I tried that the other day. The game automatically changes to cockpit view when you enter the pits and you also can't look around anymore. That's how I remember it anyway.

Using a wheel, rotate the wheel and the camera rotate to that side, but not more than that.

I use a DFP. I can look left and right with the d-pad on the wheel. When I enter the pits however, this function is disabled.

When you enter the pits yes it is disabled, but when you stop in the pit box and they change tyres and refuel you can. I haven't actually tried it with my wheel but when I was fooling around with the DS3 I noticed the left analogue stick (normally steering) allowed me to look left and right in the pit box. Try it if you don't believe me.

So with the wheel you might have to rotate the wheel to look left or right like pjrblue said above.

Just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean it doesn't work for everyone else. It works for me as well. And the Pit Crew looks good to me. Furthermore, if you watch a replay and follow an AI going into the pit, you can see the crew working while in third person exterior view, as the interior view is disabled for AI cam.

Kinda got off topic there didnt we?

I would still like to know the answer to the OP. Ive yet to get headtracking to work. Period.

Just like the OP said, as far as I know it only works on Easy and time trial. Only official reason is from Kaz himself, memory issues. I was dissapointed about this because I bought a PSeye only for head tracking the day of GT5's release only to learn it has become mostly useless for me.

I'll try that out. Like I said I'm not 100% sure. What I remember is that I wondered why the game changed to cockpit view when I was in the pits. Then when the crew changed my tires, I tried to look left and right with the d-pad to get a better view of them working, but it didn't work. I neither could change the view to an outside version, it was "frozen" to the cockpit looking straight ahead for the duration of the stop. I didn't try to turn the wheel to look around though, so I'm going to play around a little more.

Just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean it doesn't work for everyone else.
It works or it doesn't, there's no maybe. I either remember it wrong, I was in a different situation or I didn't press the right buttons.

I suppose we will see head tracking in all modes at some point in the future. There has to be a reason why this only works in easy mode however. Does anyone know the difference between easy and whatever other modes there are in time trial?

Ok, then is a problem for everybody.

I'd settle for that it works at least in the rest of arcade mode levels in the future, because I also bought the cam to play GT5 only.

Hopefully, Kaz will not say any day that removes this option completely for not having achieved what he wanted...

yeah im also in the same boat, its such a cool feature, when i set it up it was awesome to use in arcade mode. I also read somewhere that it was to do with a memory issue. I cant believe its anything to do with pit stops, even if this were true, i wouldn't mind the eye deactivating when not in the pits and then reactivating when you leave, so i really wouldn't have thought thats the problem.

I really hope they sort this out with a patch to use online and in A spec mode. Would be ace. 👎

But works for you in any other level over the easy?.

Read that this option works in arcade mode made me buy the camera. Someone could have said that in addition to level easy only...

I haven't had any time for testing yet. So can anyone tell what the difference between the modes in time trial is?

If head tracking only works in easy, there must be a crucial difference between the modes.

You CAN look left and right when stopped in the pit by 'turning' left or right.

Since it only works on easy or Time trial we can definitiely suppose it's a memory issue. Easy using less memory because of simplier physics and Time Trial because of less car on track.

I dont know if it's that but it could totally be.

It may be a stupid question, but can anyone please fill me in what "easy" exactly is and where I choose it? I've just been in arcade mode for the first time, and I didn't find any setting of that kind.

EDIT:
So after some digging, I found out that "easy" is actually "beginner" and is a choice you can meet when doing a single race, accompanied by the options "intermediate" and "expert". The question of actual differences remains however. Does "beginner" use simpler driving physics? Are there less cars on track than in the other modes?

The car number is the same, and the car physics... I don´t know why it must be diferents...

So I bought a PSeye played around with it...

I stand corrected on the possibility of looking around during a pit stop. You can do that by turning the wheel, just like Jay described.

As for the driving modes in which head tracking works and their differences: in my experience, the physics is the same in time trial as well as all three racing difficulty modes. The differences in regard to content is that there is no tire wear and no fuel consumption in time trial as well as racing in "beginner" mode. At the same time, head tracking works in these modes only.

However, that doesn't prove that these two things are connected as I claimed earlier. Kaz said there is a memory issue, so I could as well argue that the broader set of features in the more difficult modes such as fuel consumption, tire wear and the simulation of the pit crew are the reason there is not enough computing power left for real time head tracking. Generally being able to look around in all modes also points towards the memory issue.

I understand how one arrives at the conclusion that head tracking is being disabled when there's a pit crew and because there is a pit crew, but I don't believe in this theory anymore.
