Kia ora guys!

This one has been bugging me for a while actually, but I never bothered to say anything.

I can't remember exactly, but I would swear black and blue that it was a very sudden change that your headlights got stuck on during the day at the Nurburgring.
I could be wrong but I distinctly remember them not being forced on before one patch a while back changed that.

My question is, why?
Why was the change made? is it to reflect a regulation on the real track? or is it just one of those strange decisions PD seems to make on a regular basis.

I don't follow the news about the Nurburgring as much as I used to, I fell out of love with it 8 months ago in favour of returning to where I grew up, the Trial Mountain. So I'm a touch behind the times :dunce:.

I believe that it's the law to have your headlights on at the Nurburgring, probably due to some dark areas where there are trees and could impair your visibility thus causing you to crash, and for other drivers to see you too. This has been covered before if I am correct.

Really? I couldn't find anything using the search function. I found it brushed upon but nobody really answered the question. It was just a case of "huh.. yeah I wonder why that is"

Yea, I've always wondered this too. I don't know why it bugs me, so I always toggle the high-beams off when driving around the nurb.

This makes sense. The nurburgring is a very tricky and dangerous course, so anything that will help you/others from crashing is good. If this is the case, it's nice to see that PD pays attention to the small details.

You guys let little things bug you too much.

Haha I know, I have a serious problem D=

But seriously it doesn't so much bug me as much as just "huh.. that's new. I wonder why that changed"

It's just another one of those :boggled: decisions that PD have implemented but from a driving regulations perspective the Nurburgring is officially classified and a normal road and comes under the normal driving regulations for Germany that state.....

"Dipped headlights must be used in poor daytime visibility. Motorcycles must use dipped headlights during the day at all times.

Fog lights are required for driving at night and day with fog and mist, strong rain or snow. With a visual range of less than 50m through fog, rain or snow, fog lights have to be switched on and a speed limit of 50kph applies to all vehicles.
"

There are no local regulations enforced by the Nurburgring organisation that contradict or change these regulations that I have been able to discover so who knows why.....it just is.

As Cargo suggests, don't let it bother you :)

As mentioned above, times at which the Nürburgring Nordschleife is open to public, it counts as a toll road utilizing the StVO (German road law). The GP track however doesn't, so the only reason why lights are permanently on I can think of is due to coding. Nordschleife was coded first, so I guess code for the GP track just got reused.

The Eifel is usually a nasty place weather wise. Weather forcast for any given day can be predicted as cloudy with chance of rain. The forested regions leading up to the Nürburgring complex are always quite dark, so everyone drives there with their lights on. Track days usually have all kinds of speeds in drivers present, a black car with lights on can be recognized much quicker than one without.

At first I had assumed this to be the case, however. It continues to happen on the Nurburgring 24h track, which is not a version of the ring open to the public.

But assuming this is why PD made the change, it baffles me that it would have just suddenly changed like it did, this surely isn't a new law right? why would it have just changed after a patch after not having this 'rule' in place for over a year..

PD WHY DON'T YOU MAKE SENSE

*cries forever*

Change? This has always been the case, that blue light icon is always there on any ring race, since day 1.

I swear I'm not losing my mind.. my lights never used to come on until early/mid last year.

Afraid you are. Here is a video from Jan 2011:

Lights on.

How incredibly bizarre... because I would swear black and blue that my lights wouldn't automatically activate until it suddenly changed after a patch.

This wouldn't be so weird except I've got a pretty damn good memory..

It's weird that PD forced lights always turned on to reflect the law (or what they think is common sense on a difficult race track with poor visibility) on the default Nürburgring versions, while on those with weather and time change, your lights will eventually turn off automatically during the day.
