Heart Attacks?

My friend reports chest pains every now and then, about once every 2 days. The pain is sharp, but lasts for only 30 seconds or so. He reports that the heart beats "through the rib cage" while this occurs, and it is most frequent when he lies down on his left side. Is it possible that he is having a minor heart attack every 2 days? I ruled this out, because it really does not seem feasible to me, but I don't know much about this. Does anybody have any similar experiences, or some tips to help him out?

No. It's possibly angina.

Get him to a doctor NOW, no questions, no ifs, no buts. Chest pains NEED to be investigated by a physician.

Excessive stress can cause painful chest pains for a couple of minutes, but who knows. No one here on an internet forum will be able to diagnose what is happening, so get him to see a doctor.

*gulps*

Researching it, I may have it too, though to a much less serious degree. But then, there is no such sentence which makes sense that has that phrase in describing what could lead to coronary heart disease. The only thing I don't know at this point is if it is fatal, which I assume it to be, under certain circumstances.

My friend is now aware of it, and he is currently working to schedule an appointment with a physician. I can't thank you enough.

It's highly unlikely to be cardiac if it's sharp pains as these are usually lung related.
However, as Famine said, all chest pains are potentially serious and should be investigated.

For reference, anything cardiac is usually dull and crushing, whereas anything lung related is usually sharp. This is only a generalisation and shouldn't be used in place of advice from your GP or hospital!

Something like that shouldn't be a question if its serious or not if that happens go to the doctor right away.I wouldn't evan make an appointment id just go to the hospital!! Stuff like that is real serious!

What he said.

Angina always needs an investigation.

I used to get a sharp pain on the left side of my chest for a while. I couldn't breathe in deeply or stretch, the pain would stop me dead in my tracks. Is it the same?

Pulled intercostal muscle. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.

Did it go away after about 4-6 weeks?

Doesn't it just hurt like hell?

I could barely move. Everything hurt - standing, sitting, lying down, breathing, moving, not moving... It was like being stabbed by angry Musketeers 24/7.

lol sounds like you had it a lot worse.

Ouch, that sound painful. I haven't had that kind of pain, although I do get kind of sharp pains that feels like my rib cage is achy. I did tell my dad already though, and if it gets worse I'll tell him, but I don't think it's anything because it just feels like an ache and only lasts a few minutes at the most.
