Maybe useful as an April Fools joke next year.

I just think it's a nice alternative to actually banning someone.

That's devious, and almost cruel and unusal punishment! But it may work for many users. However, moderators should act like adults and tell a user he's banned right off the bat; prolonging the agony might create a greater disturbance in the future.
