When i finnish a session and exit the race the red loading icon appears and the game freezes. I tried cleaning the disk and cleaning the laser however this had no affect. Then a few days later i started the game without loading my game data and to my suprise after doing a race the disk read error icon didn't appear after a race and it continued to work perfectly. So thinking the problem fixed its self i restated the ps2 and loaded my saved game but the problem came back. I really dont want to restart my nearly completed game as i think the data is corrupt.
Has anyone experienced this problem and have any ideas on how to cure it?

this is a well-known problem. try searching and you'll find lots and lots of info on this!

Yes i have experienced that back in the days of GT1, my memory card data had gotten corrupted. Im sorry to tell u the only u can fix this is to restart a new game, because even transfering the data to a new memory card wont fix it because the data itself is corrupted.

Sorry man that i couldnt help.

My saved data got corrupted last week, so I had to restart the whole game again 👎

Same here, but it was more than a week ago.

There are two problems touched on here. The red arrow problem and the corrupt data problem.

If you only have the red arrow that means the PS2 can't read the disk. That might come and go depending on who knows what, the weather or if a piece of dust is in the laser lens. or ???. If so clean the disk first and if it doesn't help clean the laser. Do a search, there were a lot of threads on how to do that a few months back.

If you have corrupt data on the memory card, and the PS2 tells you that (not just the red arrow) then you are screwed as far as that game is concerned. Start over, its more fun the second time anyway... :sly:

Yeah, and maybe when you were cleaning the disc you scratched it, or the laser. Your not supposed to touch the laser, you should send it somewhere or bring it somewhere to be cleaned my a professional.

Its the fact the the game works fine without my data that i cant understand. I cant see how corrupt data could cause the ps2 to be unable to read the disk. Strange problem which i couldn't find anything about in other posts.
Thanks for your help.

Maybe theres not enough space on your memory card or something, so it trys to save but there is not enough room. Im just guessing, but maybe the game freezes because it can only save a portion of the game.

hmm. never heard anything about that actually, sounds like an interesting theory though!
