S2000 or Rx7 FD?

I don't know which car has more potential in power or drifting..

A few questions we need to know:

1) How old are you and how far are you from being able to drive legally?

2) What is your budget (large, medium, or small will do since most of us will not be familiar with Indonesian currency values).

3) Will the car be a daily driver or just a toy?

Are you talking about real life or gt5?

it's for real life. I'll use it for tuning competition (dyno) and slalom competition

1) 17
2) don't care. Because I found their used price almost same.
3) for competition and daily driver

i would chose s2000 why, because i use to own an rx7 94', omg it was such a big headache trust me, its not easy to maintain why? because few people know actually how to work with rotary engines, but the best part is the thrill of driving it.

As for s2k its more newer, more realiable, easy to work with, lighter and more expensive, but in this case you dont care about the budget. I chose rx7 cause i love turbo cars, the only big disadvantage about these cars is 2 seater, sometimes you wanna chill with a bunch of your friends and go somewhere in one car.

"Don't care" is not a good answer. I didn't ask which car was more expensive. I asked how much money you had to dispose on a car. Because depending on how small your budget is, the correct advice on which car to buy might be "neither".

And if they're both in your budget, go and drive them. You're the one that has to live with your choice. Not some faceless gonk on the interspace who tells you that one is a better drifter than the other.

:D

I'm a faceless gonk, and by my experience the S2000 is better.

(Disclaimer : please bare in mind my experience is limited to GT5P)

:dopey:

In all seriousness,

1st point : How at 17 are you going to afford an S2000 or RX7?

2nd point : How do you expect to insure your vehicle?

(This question is based on the fact that there is some sort of insurance system in Indonessia, as in the UK you would not have a hope in hell of insuring them cars without Lottery backing)

^^^^word up, why dont you go to the dealership and ask to test drive it.

A 2005 S2k can be yours for the low, low price of $18,000, an '06 for $2000 more and an '07 for another $2000 (based on edmunds) - pricing isn't all that high. So anyone living at home with Ma and Pa making minimum wage could swing the $300 car payment pretty easily.

Oh, wait. He is from Indonesia. I retract my previous comment as I have no idea what it's like there. I barely know what it's like here.

That is still alot of money to be lumping yourelf with at 17. Then there is the fact that he plans to run in competitions with it, which these costs could easily spiral out of control, with tyres, damage, entrance fees, etc.

While, again, I don't know what all that runs exactly, I can still see it as fairly doable. It's all about motivation.
I highly doubt his running it for competition, it just sounds like a teenager excited about his first car.
Honestly, I hope he does go into competition otherwise he'll be drifting on city streets. 👎

As I recall, insurance was actually surprisingly cheap on an S2000 when I looked into it about a year ago. The Miata, as I recall, sits pretty around $120 a month (for me), the S2000 being only about $20-30 more a month. Thats dirt cheap if you ask me, especially for a "high performance" car.

Nevertheless, don't let that be my condoning of the purchase of either car at 17. In fact, I'm 22, and I'm not even sure if I'm responsible enough yet to own either one. The fact of the matter is that both are a lot of car for a lot of money, and being that you're young, still relatively unexperienced at driving, and furthermore increasingly likely to damage the car both on the street (and on the race track?)... Yeah, dumb idea.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a golden oldie. A NB Miata will ring up for half the price, and still be just as much fun.

Just out of interest what are the roads in Jakarta like?

Wiki says

Despite the presence of many wide roads, Jakarta suffers from congestion due to heavy traffic, especially in the central business district. To reduce traffic jams, some major roads in Jakarta have a 'three in one' rule during rush hours, first introduced in 1992, prohibiting fewer than three passengers per car on certain roads.

Jakarta's roads are notorious for undisciplined driver behavior; transportation laws are broken with impunity and police bribery is commonplace. The painted lines on the road are regarded as mere suggestions as vehicles often travel four or five abreast on a typical two-lane road. It is not uncommon to encounter a vehicle traveling the wrong direction in a given traffic flow. Furthermore, in recent years the number of motorcycles on the streets has been growing almost exponentially. The vast sea of small, 100-200cc motorcycles, many of which have 2-stroke motors, create much of the traffic, noise and air pollution that plague Jakarta.

I don't know where abouts in Jakarta you are and I'm sure there are normal roads but if the insurance companies had any sense at all (if there are insurance companies) they would be charging you two arms and two legs to have a high powered valuable car on the road.

Not to pee on the parade, but cars in general, surely?

Get a neon or a miata! Wait...he isn't from USA. I would start off small instead of just going straight to those kind of cars.

sorry, my english is bad :ouch::ouch:

If Indonesia's system is anything like our's, you're not going to be doing much drifting or competing with either car, at least, not any time soon upon owning it.

The parts required for drifting are pretty pricey for any car, and even if you just want to do some tracking, it's still a pricey form of motorsport to keep doing instead of just once in a while. I'm about $3,000 away from getting my car fully prepped while my cousin is also about $2K from getting his prepped. It's a pretty costly hobby....
