Really need help with this one guys, my ps3 when connected to the Internet is running really slow, apart from on any COD. GT5 seems to be the most affected game I have. Can somebody please help me, I have rang my Internet provider and they assured me that it isn't a problem with my connection. Please help!

How does slow internet mean your Playstation is dying?

Because its slow on everything except COD. My connection isn't slow, it's a 60mb connection, fibre optic, download is 15mb and upload is 1mb. I think you'll agree this isn't slow.

Everything else that uses my Internet is running fine, both mine and my girlfriends iPhones the laptop and my tv. So it has I be my PS3, is there something I can do I maximise my PS3 speed?

Also I have cleared my cache and deleted all my sent and received messages and all temporary Internet files, also removed all HDD games I no longer play, what else can I do?

Back up your games incase of a bad HDD.

Also reinstall the firmware or reset it

It does seem to fix a few issues.

I have all my saves backed up but I cannot back up my PS3 cause I don't have a external HDD, and it needs 40 odd gb.

EDIT: think I have sorted it after all day on the phone with Sony, netgear, and virgin. I was on a channel everyone else was using around me, I had to do some port forwarding and change DNS but its looking good!

Let me guess Channel 6.

That seems to be the default channel Wifi networks are set to.

No it was on channel 11, so I put it on 10, and it worked for a couple of days, but now it's sloooow again! Somebody said something about DMZ's, don't even know what they are though.

DMZ stands for demilitarized zone.

Wiki it HERE

Try setting it to auto.

That way it should cycle to others if it picks up another network using the same channel.

Another thing does your router have prioritizing or caps on how many devices may connection to your wifi? I am in a house of 4 people each with a phone on wifi, 3 ipod touches, an ipad, 2 laptops and my ps3. When everybody his home and almost all that stuff is on it gets slow and our router prioritizes them and will only let a max number connect. Maybe something like that is happening and it's a router setting?

I'd point it to wireless signal strength entirely - try moving your router closer or higher - Windows Media Center actually has a signal meter so you can test the signal speed.

Nothing you have said points in anyway to your PS3 dying.

You think it's something as simple as that? I'll give it a whirl!

Could be as simple as a firmware issue with your PS3 or router. Do what Grayfox said, back-up all your saves etc and see if you can update your PS3 again. I had a similar issue to you! I'll try to find the thread and link you.
