Help Identifying A Car.

Recently a classic looking car has been buzzing around my area and I've been curious as to what it is as I haven't seen anything like it before. The badge says it's a VW even though it has Porsche rims. It's kind of a wagon shape, and the front end design is not too disimilar to a Chevrolet Corvair. It looks quite old, I'd hazard a guess at the 60s or 70s. It is also 3-Door too. I know where it resides so I was wondering if it'd be worthy of the DYSAGT? thread.

Did it look kind of like this:

?? If so, it's a VW Type-3 Squareback

I'm pretty sure it wasn't that exact model. It looked more modern and sporty. It has twin headlamps if that helps.
