any other car i should consider???

Have you driven a 1993-1998 Volkswagen Golf or Jetta 2L? I'll grant you they aren't quick, but they handle fairly well and they're rather fun to drive with a manual transmission. Plus, 1993-1998 without a 2-liter limits you to just the VR6, right?

Have a look at a few others:
- 1993-1995 Audi 90 (especially Quattro)
- 1992-1994 Audi 100 (especially Quattro) / 1995 Audi A6 (especially Quattro)
- 1993-1995 Cadillac Seville STS / 1994-1995 Cadillac Seville SLS
- 1996-1997 Chrysler Sebring convertible
- 1990-1994 Eagle Talon TSi AWD / 1990-1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX
- 1996-1997 Eagle Vision TSi (AutoStick transmission)
- 1998 Ford Contour SVT
- 1993-1995 Ford Taurus SHO automatic
- 1991-1996 Infiniti G20
- 1992-1996 Lexus ES300
- 1992-1996 Lexus SC300 / SC400
- 1995-1998 Mazda Millenia S
- 1992-1996 Mitsubishi Diamante / 1997-2000 Mitsubishi Diamante
- 1995-1999 Nissan Maxima
- 1995-1998 Nissan 240SX
- 1994-1997 Saab 9000 Aero
- 1991-1995 Toyota MR2
- 1992-1994 Volkswagen Corrado SLC
- 1995-1997 Volkswagen Passat VR6
- 1994-1996 Volvo 850 Turbo / 1997 Volvo 850 T5

Red = fast
Bold = good buys

They're all great cars, though.

I have to agree with M5, the Golf/Jetta has excellent handling and would probably suit your needs compared to the other cars on the list.

My suggestion is a Nissan 240SX. They're dirt cheap, have great reliability, and are fast cars for their price. And if you have 4000-5000 USD leftover, you could swap in an SR20DET, which would make the car capable of 1/4 miles in the 13 second range fairly easily.

mmmm, im not looking for a high performance drag car, just sumthin to use daily and dat can go fast enough to beat ricers.....sumthin v6 or 4, no engine swaps or mods....i probably wont get da older vw's...

Hey M@Goo, make sure if you're looking into VW's get them either prior to 1997 or the Wolfsburgh edition...AND MAKE IT MANUAL...VW automatics have the worst electrical problems, my dad just spent 4500 on his 1998 Jetta GL's tranny....and he drives it like it was glass...and it is still not quite there,,,,,

NO judging by the pics you have shown there, you are willing to pay from $2000 to $18'000...is that true?

I'd take te corolla but make sure you look under the hood and that it's DOHC... otherwise you're looking at a $,$$$ engine transplant in pursuit of power, not to mention suspension mods (Eight-Fives had SOHC 1.6's and there's just no way you can compare an Eight-Six to an Eight-five)

Unless, of course, you already had putting in a 16-or-20-valve 4A-GE in your plans :trouble:

BTW TTJay IMO a xB has better shifter feel than a Jetta TDi...

M5P: I believe you also have the miserly 1.9 TDi, some1 on the block has an older Passat with TDi badges...

How much are you looking to spend? i got my 94 vr-4 for 10k and it only had 80k on it. You can get a 1st gen 91-93 for like 7k with 80k miles on it if you look. And they are really good daily drive aside from drinking 93 octane like water the car runs great. And on top of that the car looks sweet as hell.

Hey there Victor, I actually wasn;t reffering to the shifter feel, but reliability......a 1985 bmw 3 series has better shifter feel too !

Yeah but still it's like moving a stick in soft putty... when dad test drove it he nearly missed a shift! :scared:

(Of course, my dad is used to the old mortar-mixing clutch and clunk-clunk shifter of older muscle cars, and not the flick-flick shifters of today, so it kinda figures)

Well, if you want to beat ricers, I'd strongly suggest the Eagle Talon. Very quick car.

mmmm, dat is a ricer, only with american badges....

anyway im plannin on spending $2,000-16,000

I'd go with the FWD Corolla maybe, if you can get a GT-S model. I've driven one once (and my car has the same motor), I like em a lot, and the engine is very nice.

Although I'd take a similarly aged Civic Si over the Corolla GT-S... but the Corolla is still a very sweet little car.

and i really like da probe, 1st on da list.....anyone got comments on it???

Ford Probe/ Mazda MX6 are ok, but when I buy a car you have to ask yourself some questions. Is the car going to be your only transportation, or is it going to be the second car/hot rod/toy. If it going to be the your only transportation get something that is reliable, and gets good gas mileage like a honda, or toyota. If it's going to be your second car/hot rod/toy then there is whole another set of questions.

FWD.... the drifter's forbidden acronym.... pfffft. Well, actually Corollas will live longer then your kitten will, and the new XRS is nice with the 2ZZ-GE... but the Pre-1987 (a.k.a AE86) Corollas are classics 👍, but again, the AE85 has a very weak motor, make sure you test drive - and full throttle - it before you buy it. Look what happened to Itsuki

Sadly yes - though I didn't actually think the Jetta and Golf got the engine until the 1999 redesign. It actually came out in 1997. The Passat had a turbodiesel in 1996, 1997, and 2004; Jetta and Golf have had it since 1997.

Weak, boring.

How about a BMW 6-series? Saab 9000 Aero would be perfect though. Easily the quickest Saab ever built, one of the quickest Swedish cars.

You could always import an Opel/Vauxhall Calibra

no way, do you know how expensive that would be......i only have about $2000-$15,000 to spend and i probably not even goin over $10,000.........

anyway, the saab 900 aero is too $$$$$
i dont want Bmw's - INSURANCE RATES!!!!
and NO hondas - again Insurance Rates - MOST STOLEN CAR IN VANCOUVER
so, know im probably just going to look at the Corolla AE86

but im still open for any other suggestions and comments

my guidlines: 4 or 6cyl, over 100hp, standard, low insurance rates and RELIABLE

You are hilarious. You call an Eagle Talon, which is a much-respected car because of its quickness, and you call it “rice”. You lack knowledge, aside from that comment, you use many slang words, which is against the AUP. I am sure you have read it, haven’t you?

The only thing I do not like about the Talon is its reliability. I have heard that its reliability suck much more than Britney Spear.

That is funny. You will not consider an Eagle Talon but you will consider a 1980 Corolla. In addition, you expect it to burn “ricers”. I am sorry but a stock 80s Corolla will not do that. Even a simple Honda Civic SI would roast you.

9000 Aero. It's quicker than anything you can afford, and it's got more stuff too. $8000.

my guidlines: 4 or 6cyl, over 100hp, standard, low insurance rates and RELIABLE

1996-1997 Audi A4. Surprisingly cheap to insure; the V6 had 172-horsepower and the 4-cylinder (which came out in 1997) had 150. Shouldn't cost more than $7500.

AE86 Corollas are for suckers.

i would agree..... th ae86 is ment for drifters.... and they cost a lot of money to fix them up.... about 8 to 9 grand.....
by the way a word of advise buy a car with 4 doors.... insurance is cheaper....👍

mmm, yes it is more expensive for a 2door car, why??? because its considered a sports car and a 4door is considered a passenger vehicle

and YES an eagle talon is a ricer becasue its just the mitsubishi eclipse with eagle badges.....

ps, sorry for the slang, msn's fault, hehe...

First off, you are correct. A two door of the same make and model would be more expensive to insure than a 4-door model of the same model.

However no doubt there are 4 door sedans that cost more to ensure than a 2 door sport car, so don't expect that every 4 door sedan are cheaper to insure.

Why in the blue hell do you think an Eagle Talon or Mitsubishi Eclipse out of the box, meaning stock, is a "ricer"? Many years of hearing this "rice" comment, I have found out what "rice" actually means.

Many people who says "rice" means that people who spend more money on the exterior of the car then the engine. Others might have a different view on it, saying that "rice" mean a stupid ugly body kit.

Therefore, I have concluded that when people say “rice” they mean a modified car. Now, why do you think an Eagle Talon is a “ricer”? Maybe because there are people who “rice” it up? Well then, most of the car on the street would be consider a “ricer” especially the Honda Civic.

You certainly do not sound knowledgeable about cars. When you just claim that statement with no back up or explanation at all.

Please reply.

Oh yeah, there are 4WD turbo version of both Eagle Talon and Mitsubishi Eclipse. Both are incredible quick.

You do not even deserve an Eagle Talon (turbo), get the Honda Civic, and enjoy.

ps, sorry for the slang, msn's fault, hehe...

No its your fault. You just do not want to admit it. I hope you know that you are supposing to capitalized the beginning of a sentence and end it with a punctuation mark.

Your English teacher must be very disappointed.

Please reply.

EDIT: Since I can't cuss you out in English. I should do it in Chinese. :)

Wow, excellent reply, a lot of though put into it. The thing about rice is that me & my buddies use it EVEN if the car isnt modified, to us it refers to asian cars that we dont ever want to buy. (Ex. ALL CIVICS = RICERS, SUPRAS = NON RICERS) About the grammer, sorry and it is my fault and i will try to not do it again. (look at this text)

And one question, how da bloody hell do you have an custom avatar when your just a new member????

BTW. M5 POWER, thanyou for the comments, just the other day i went to see some used 9000 aero's and they were pretty damn nice. I just need to find one now with low kms, stickshift and private sale.

Found this one.

So let me get it right. All Asian cars that you do not like are called "rice".

So what should I call all the American cars that I do not like?!? "Macaroni and Cheese"?

:dopey:
