I'm tired of NFS Most wanted, i want i game that looks like gran turismo, a game that you have a great choice of cars, street cars and races. I want to buy tires, transmission ( like GT ) and i want to tune it ( like GT again ) + a good online gameplay, maybe drags and drift too. is it possible ? i searched for one but i didnt find something i would like.. the best i found was Live for speed.

I saw Grid 2 on steam, but it isnt a simulator ? it looks more like NFS series exept that if you run into a wall, your car is destroyed.

well, exept of that, is there any good games that worth looking for ?

Only two options I could think of. Forza 4, if you've got an Xbox. Otherwise, Shift 2, with mods. On PC, obviously. There aren't many racing games following the GT formula, so you're somewhat limited as far as options go.

NFS shift ? and what does the mods brings to it ? I just found Sim raceway and downloaded it, i played 5min with my keyboard, looks nice, ill try it later with my driving wheel.

Yup, Need for Speed Shift 2: Unleashed. The mods rectify stuff like input lag, improve the physics, fix minor issues with track details and other graphcis related stuff, new camera perspectives and a whole slew of additional cars (mostly ripped from Forza).

You can have a look at the mods here.

Personally I preferred Shift to Shift 2 in terms of the vanilla (unmodded) games, I just preferred the feel of it even though both are far from realistic.

Luminis was pretty much spot on, Forza and Shift are really the closest you can get to GT without just getting GT. There are some rFactor mods which allow basic upgrades but they aren't fantastic or consistent.

Obligatory "there's going to be a Steam sale at some point this month" warning, so don't buy anything yet, but as you're on PC I'd say Shift if you don't want to mess around with mods, Shift 2 if you do. But Forza 4 is better than either by a long way.

maybe ill get Shift 2, but in Rfactor you dont realy have a lot of cars, only f1, gt and touring cars ? theres no much street cars i think ?

PS: i think the sales will be this week-end

i just downloaded raceroom experience on steam too, it's a freegame and i think we can play online too! Ill see if this game is good, ill give my feedback later for Sim Raceway amd Raceroom !

I absolutely agree with neema_t, Shift/Shift 2 are only going to be an okay-ish substitute for a GT-esque game. And Shift 2, without mods, isn't exactly the greatest experience ever. At least when you're out for some sim-heavy feel.

Assetto Corsa and Project CARS would probably be close to what you're looking for, but, alas, both of them are still in development.

for you guys, is Grid 2 worth buying ? Asseto Corsa will soon be out and Project cars too ?

For me.. Grid not worth buying, Shift 2 also not worth buying or at least not on console. I picked up the 360 version and it was garbage. GT on the play station, Forza on the 360 Forza 2 3 and 4 are all decent. Project cars sounds very good and Asseto Corsa may have potential.

If you want to use a PC then GT Legends is pretty good. GTR2 is good if you are looking for a sim with GT race cars. rFactor2 is probably worth checking out as well.

rFactor is really a modding platform, if you never install any mods for it you're definitely doing it wrong.

You know, GT and Forza are possibly the only sub-genre (sim-like racing game with loads of licensed cars, customisation and a career) that consoles do better than PC, they're also the main reason I have a 360 and PS3 as well as my PC. It's unlikely AC will feature customisation beyond modding and livery editing, Project CARS will definitely not have upgrades and such - they've already confirmed that. Then there are loads of great racing sims but again, no customisation, even Grid doesn't let you upgrade the car, but I've learned to stop caring about that because you can usually find some awesome mods instead; the 300 SEL "Rote Sau" for Race 07, the Skyline 2000 GT-R Group A for GT Legends and DRM Revival, AE86 Club (N1/N2) and HistorX for rFactor come to mind.

But yeah, don't actually buy anything until the Steam sale starts. All of Simbin's stuff is usually 75-80% off, so if you grab their complete pack you'll get Race plus DLC, GT Legends, GTR2 and Race 07 plus DLC which all adds up to a lot of content.
