So. I've decided I want us to go away in mid June (annual leave request yet to go in) but I don't know where we can go.

There are a few conditions as follows:

Must be no more than a 6 hour flight from the UK, preferably 4-5 hours tops;
Must be somewhere not typically touristy as I like peace and quiet (and I don't like chavs);
Must be somewhere warm, where I can go into an outdoor pool and/or the sea, where I can get a nice tan but not be too hot and preferably not somewhere humid;
Doesn't need to be kid friendly as it'll just be myself and Mr. Me;
Must be somewhere where our ability to only speak English won't be a hinderance;
Must be somewhere I can trust the food as I do not want to ruin the holiday because of D&V!

Spam away :D

You can't really go wrong with a Greek island. (Well you can, but there are so many of them there are loads of jewels.)

Kos / Greece. Rather small island but really nice, not too crowded (mostly), pretty cool.

You don't mention a budget but i am assuming that your will have more to spend than the chavs...?

I suggest northern Italy ...Lake Garde ...Lake Como It ticks all those boxes and is stunning.

Too many chavs

I agree with the Greek Islands and specifically Skiathos.

I hate going to the same place more than once but I've been there twice and would go again. There are no chavs and although it's not solely a Brits island pretty much all the locals speak English. The beaches are fantastic, the food is Greek and therefore fantastic and there's only one proper road with a very good bus service so you can get about easily. If you do hire a Jimny (you are on holiday after all) there is much hilarity to be had on the plethora of tiny dirt roads which let get to the very very quiet beaches on the other side of the island and a couple of monasteries on the mountain. There's a dog sanctuary in the middle of the island which you can visit and take the dogs for a walk if you get withdrawals. The town and harbour are lovely, I don't think there are any loud bars let alone clubs. I should probably stop now!

Have some lots of pics (sorry)

Scrap the requirements list and give the glowsticks one last hurrah!

Ibiza
Mykonos, Greece
Moon festival, Thailand (don't worry, only 30 Brits on average die from partying way too hard every year)

Ibiza is a good shout. If you stay away from san antoni and the city you wont get to many tourists.

Um, no. :odd:

The requirements list is there for a reason. If you can't make sensible suggestions with the list in mind then please don't spam my thread!

I'd want to ignore one of those, the travel distance, and go for the Cook Islands. It hits everything else so perfectly it is amazing.

Plus it is super duper pretty there.

Lighten up dear, it was in jest.

But seriously, Ibiza is great if you stay away from S.Antonio as stated above. Very pretty and the locals are really friendly.

EDIT: Vacation, Vacation, Vacation on E4 Youtube now about Ibiza if anyone's interested.

don't take this the wrong way but your not asking for much specifics for your holiday :lol:

having a list if requirements like that seems to take the fun aspect out of the holiday itself and make it boring, traveling/holidays are about learning and trying new experiences, new food to taste, experience local culture, maybe pick up a bit of a foreign language and so on...

hell if i had a list like that going on holiday i might as well just hop in a car and drive 6 hrs towards the other end of the country i live in and spend a week or two there :lol:

just my 0.02p on it, a person who enjoys travelling a lot and doing new things

I don't know if you've considered this but Cunard offers some wonderful cruises. If you could get enough time a mediterranean cruise would be boatloads of fun! (pun very much intended!:dopey:) All the tourist spots would be filled with English-speakers. Only thing it doesn't meet it the quiet factor - but you could probably work around people if you were diligent.

Just a thought - it might be a nice alternative to flight, especially with the onset of the spring season - bookings probably fill up fast!👍👍

Lighten up dear

She's going to hurt you, sport.

Thanks for the tip (trip to Daytona, Kennedy Space Center, Key West and Dry Tortugas not shown). This time we just want to go somewhere, the two of us, to relax while we still can. If it's okay with you?

Presently the shortlist looks like:
  • Cyprus - Pafos (which also has the Tombs of the Kings, the House of Dionysus and Petra tou Romiou - about 3,000 years of history - plus Mount Olympus and the Troodos Mountains nearby, should we feel the need for culture [and yes, I've been there]). Might be too hot.
  • Denmark - Kobenhavn (Egeskov Castle, Tivoli Gardens, Oresund Bridge to Malmo, Odense and about 1,000 years of history [and yes, I've been there too]). Has the advantage of not having to fly or rent a car, so being cheaper, but is a relatively expensive place.
  • Iceland - Reykjavik (Selfoss/Dettifoss/Skogafoss, Vatnajokull, Blue Lagoon, Strokkur, Peningagja/Alfagja [we've both been here]). Expensive and we have to fly there, plus we've been before and if Katla explodes we might be stuck in an expensive place. Also, not really sunbatheable, but then again, Blue Lagoon.

Believe it or not but there's actually popping up some nice alternatives on the Canary Islands that caters for the people seeking peace and quiet.

If you in the end decide to scrap the 6 hour maximum flight time then Mauritius has everything you want and then some.

Now, oddly, I'd thought of the Canaries - and to a lesser extent Madeira. We haven't looked into it yet though, so any specific suggestions you have would be great 👍

We'd love to do Mauritius too, but there's absolutely no way we (well, she) would be able to afford that any time soon. It's one of my must-visits.

I brought back three bottles of Brennivin, four years ago. I gave two away as gifts.

There are still two and a half bottles of Brennivin left...

It's because you have to be a Viking to drink the Black Death

I concur that Lake Garda in Italy is a good shout, not extremely touristy and because there's a whopping big lake in the middle there is literally less land to be occupied by chav's :lol:

Also you can hop onto a bus and take day trips to Venice and Modena etc.

Robin.

She'll have to catch me first! *runs*

I'd go to Iceland. I've been twice but would go back again and again - fascinates me to no end. Schnapps is good too *hick*

would agree with Iceland, haven't been myself, but its on my to do list of locations, i heard they don't have off licenses that sell alcohol 👎 lol

Visit Tenerife, especially since there's actually very little risk of one of its sides falling into the ocean and drenching you in a 1,000-ft tsunami.

Well, Turkey is quite nice if you stay out of the touristy area's. It is quite hot though. Same with spain.

If you want to do more exploration what about Morroco?

Thanks for the sensible suggestions. I've asked a question and am pleased that some of you have been able to come back with something along the lines of what I want. Those of you who are making judgements in that we should be flying further, that we should be having an adventure and not just laying on a beach relaxing and other such "OMG as if you want that from a holiday, how boring are you" can go forth and multiply!

Assuming I am granted the annual leave and assuming I can part with the credit card space, then it's probably going to be Cyprus.
