Help me find my Tartan!

Hey all,

I'm best man at a wedding in a couple of months and will probably wear a suit as I have to all the weddings I've been to before this.

I'm half Scottish and quite proud of it! :) but i've never worn a kilt before.

I'd like to wear one to my best mates wedding but if I'm going to do it, I'd like to do it properly. i.e I want to find my families tartan.

My surname is Hutchison. It seems we are descendants of the McDonalds (who isn't?), and i've looked all over for a Hutchison tartan but I can't find one. I've found a Hutcheson but I'm not sure it's the right one.

I'm hoping some of you (daan, TM) can help me! :)

Dunc, my family lineage is descended from the McDonald clan as well. My parents actually bought me a kilt in Scotland last week and it's in the works of being made. Based on the pictures my parents showed me our tartan looks like this:

Joey, I might end up getting a McDonald tartan, but I want to find a Hutchison tartan if one exists.

Yep, Hutcheson is the right one. Spelling in ye olden days doesn't really matter as loads of folk didn't know how to. There would be no difference between Hutchison and Hutcheson. Your family could even have been a Hutcheson, but changed to Hutchison by a registrar who couldn't spell particularly well...

Bifurcated is a word, you know.

I'm roughly a quarter Scottish, and my line goes back to the Johnson clan, but I never did get around to getting a kilt made.
 
Despite not being even slightly Scottish - not even biologically so - I'm allowed to wear the Ross tartan.

Go figure.
