Ok, i'm an administrator on a forum about our school. There's a forum about chat, a forum about music, tv, movies, forums on anything you can imagine.
Firstly, it was just year 13 using it as a chat forum. We stopped them becuase they were cluttering up the forum with useless crap. They were then outraged, and many of them left. a few months ago, we added a sixthform chat forum, just for them, with no rules whatsoever, to no avail. There's been about 2 threads, with about one reply each. We're both begining to give up, and now, even the mods are leaving. We've tried everything, we've given everybody exactly what they want, we've added forums, removed rules, put rules back, everything. So, i'm all out of ideas. How can i get more people from school to visit the site? Any ideas?
I was thinking for advertsing, minimal is best, for example, for the first week, we post the name of the forum, and nothing else up around the school, so by the next week, everyone will be curious as to what this thing is. Then we gradually post up addresses to give people an address to find out what this thing is.
The next thing we have to get rid of, is the recognition with school currently, it is called "QE Forum", qe being the name of our school. Can anyone suggest a kinda, random name that we can call it? It must not be related with school in anyway whatsoever.

So, can anyone give me some advice as to how i get get more people to wan to visit?

Thanks in advance

Jon

You need to prove that teachers don't use it. Give it a password that teachers supposedley don't know, then send the password as invites to people like gmail and let those spread between people in your school.

You on't even have to prove teachers don't use it. Just that they don't know about it. Not only can the school 'bust' you for it but people won't talk if they think everything they say can be held against them.

Word of mouth is the best way. Ask a few mates to put it in their MSN names etc.

Hmm, thanks for the ideas! Teachers don't actually use the site, so i'm ok there, but i might get rid of the current site, and have a fresh start with a new one, and use these ideas. I'll run it past the other admin and see what he thinks.

I'm still open to ideas btw

Thanks

Jon
