Hello GTP'ers:
Today I came up with an idea for a short story I want to write involving the Jaguar XJ13, that marvelous and gorgeous piece of engineering that GT5 made me discover. In order to write this, I'd like to have detailed information regarding the designers, the company, and the car itself. So, I'd like to ask for the enciclopedic knowledge of some GTPlanet members 👍.
I've been very inspired by the Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges, which is always very historically and bibiliographically accurate, so knowing the details of the XJ13 project and of a fictional duel with the Ferrari 330 P4 and the Ford Mk IV is vital. I've read the wikipedia (
) article of the car and found out that the bodywork designer was Malcolm Sayer. I'd like to narrate from Sayer's point of view, as he narrates a dreamed Le Mans race in which Maurice Trintignant drove the car the whole race (a la Pierre Levegh/Eddie Hall way) competing with the Ford Mk IV and the 330 P4 (yes, it has a very GT5/PD-esque hue here). The idea is that Sayer is in his office retreiving the original designs of the car after knowing the project was scraped, and narrates the dreamed story to his woman (Girlfriend? Wife?) finishing with a somewhat "grey" ending.
Some of the questions that come to mind at the moment are:
What time are we talking about specifically? Wikipedia gives me a production time begining in 1965
Who designed the engine in the XJ13? (I've read it's an evolution of Jaguar's XK inline six engine but with DOHC valvetrain)
Waht is known about Malcolm Sayer's personal life? Did he have a spouse?
What role did "Lofty" England and Sir William Lyones played in the Jaguar Company in that time? What role did they play in the XJ13 project?
How was Maurice Trintignant's character? I know that he never was even close to being a works Jaguar driver, but one can dream
.
Who campaigned the Jaguar, Ferrari, and Ford cars of that time in Le Mans? I know making the same three cars race in the same track is very unaccurate and platonic, but how inaccurate would it be?
What was happening with the Jaguar company in that time? Who was in charge of the cancelation of the XJ13 project? Where were the headquarters and the design offices?
Thanks in advance fellow GTPers!!!
All help is very appreciated
