Help needed

Ok guys and girls, I have a delema that needs to be settled. There's this kid down the street from me who has a 1989 Chevy Cavalier Z24. I have a 1992 Ford Taurus Station wagon. His car has some work done on it, but from what I can tell, its only some minor interior, exterior work, wheels and a system. I don't know if he has any engine mods to it. But, getting to my question, would I be able to beat him if we raced. His Cav has a 2.8 liter V6, where my wagon has a 3.8 liter V6. Please help so I can shut him up.

Actually, don't race him.
You're going to get your ass handed to you.

The Z24 does 0-60 in 8.5 and the 1/4 mile in 16.7

where the Taurus,

does 0-60 in 10.9 and the 1/4 mile in 17.9

So you're not going to be able to shut him up, that is unless he'll be quite after kicking your ass.

The better driver? I suppose so.
That is if the guy in the Z24 missed every single shift, then the wagon, may make up that 1.2 seconds in the 1/4 mile.

But sound advice in taking it to the track. 👍

There are so many factors that can affect this. The 1.2 seconds faster can be changed. These times were taken 10 years ago with a professional driver and a race track under the best conditions.
10 years past this time, who's car is more mechanically sound, who is the better driver? Who is using what gearbox? And I think that the biggest variable is who has the better tire choice. In this race, FWD vs. FWD, traction is everything. When you do race, race him with about 15psi in your front tires to increase your traction.

Why must so many people come on here and ask if there car can beat someone else? Just race them and find out its that simple. Or do a little research...like go to google. Type in the two dfferent cars and find some stats on them.

The two best ways, but don't ask a bunch of people in a forum it makes you look a moron to many people.

*Fill me in on this "race" to because I think it would be funny to see two crap cars drag race. Either that or take a video, put it on the internet so everyone can laugh at you.

A system, eh? Scary.

It just plain doesn't matter. If you raced on the roads, you'd both be losers (as well as asses). If you went to a strip, you'd both be losers as everyone pointed and laughed at your pointless race.

Just be satisfied that you can move more furniture than him. Find out which has the better fuel economy. Determine which has the better 40-70mph in-gear acceleration. Find out which can brake from 70-0mph sooner. All of these things matter more in the real world than which one of two crappy cars can reach a point 440 yards away quickest.
