Help on installing updates?

so a few days ago my previous PS3 broke, so I took it to the shops to get it fixed. When I got it back, I realized some patches and update info were corrupted, mostly games like Watchdogs and COD, games I don't play much. But the GT6 game data was corrupted as well, so I thought "well, I should just delete the game data and redownload the updates" so I did just that. The downloading procedure itself was long but successful, and it continued like it should. Until you get to the installing screen. The game said 200 minutes so I took a short nap. When I woke up it said installation failed. I restarted the game and met the same problem. Even restarting the patch and update downloads. I took it to the shops to check if they messed something up but they didn't. They tried updating some other game and it worked. So I bought a CD cleaner to see if it was dirty, but it didn't solve a thing! I am a huge GT fan and I was planning to drift, tune, drag, race my weekend! Not stopping myself from throwing my PS3 out the window! Help please?

I saw many solution like this where you download partway and such but I have a saved data at 2 million credits and 300 something cars. I cannot load this data up because it is an updated version. I don't want to lose that data because everytime I try this it loads me up to the beginning of the game which I always quit before it gets a chance to overwrite the save data. So I need another way

Create another user and do the method of downloads on it. Then when you updated, go to your normal PS3 user, your saves won't get lost. Or simply just save it on usb, then copy it after the method of downloads.
