Ok, i have the chenming case, and it has a place for a fan in the hdd bay, another right under it, and 2 in the back of the case, someone told me i should have the hdd and fan under it, intake, so takes in air and blows cold air inside right? And the 2 in the back exhaust, so blows air out? Wouldn't it be better if all 4 were intake fans? Thanks for your help. im also getting the vantec fan card if this changes anything.

Well actually. No. If they were all four intakes, then you'd be cramming loads of air into your case, making the inside a higher pressure than the outside.

If the case air pressure is higher, then that means no air will want to 'naturally' flow into it. Which means less circulation.

Think of it this way:

The assembly line and the retail stores. The assembly line is the amount of air being pushed. If your retail stores (exhausts) can't sell enough of the product, then the product will be sitting there doing nothing. You'll be less efficient.

So basically.. You want more exhaust fans than you do intake fans. Or equal amounts.

You want more exhaust fans because if you make the inside less pressurized, then air will naturally want to flow into it, reducing the need for another fan.

^but remeber negative pressure will suck in dust aswell as air so make sure you have some sort of filter.....eventhough dust can be a problem, creating this vacuum setup is by far the best way to keep your case cool.....

You want the 2 exhaust fans in the back getting rid of hot air. If you had all intake fans, the hot air would only get mixed and stay inside.

Exhausts fans are definately more important than intake.

Thanks guys, ok I put the 2 in the back as exhaust, the hdd is also an exhaust and the one under is an intake, but will purchase a fan filter. 👍 :) 👍

Don't. Reverse the HDD one right now. It's cancelling out the effect of the intake dude. =P

What you just did is basically.. telling the exhaust fan to blow hot air out of the HDD (Good.) But also telling the intake to suck in hot air from the exhaust (bad)

Just make both of the HDD and the one under as Intakes.

As for the fan filters... Ask your mom for some worn pantyhose.. Cut a small square about the size of your fan out.. stretch it over your fan.. the amount of stretch determines how much crap it filters. (IMO, Great way to save some money)

I didn't turn it on, its on my gaming machine that im still putting together, ok so final setup is intake for hdd and fan under, exhaust is the 2 in the back. Ok good. and as for the pantyhose good idea, but im buying filters :)

Stolen from the ScreenSavers?

Wouldn't exhausting from the front and intaking from the back make more sense? Cool air would be blowing over the cpu fan allowing it to suck in fresh air; instead of sucking in the hot air thats been sitting above the mobo waiting to be exhausted.

no, heat rises - the hot air builds up at the top of the case. Plus the cpu and PSU are both located at the top of the case. Getting it to exhaust there is the best thing you could do

I have an intake fan on the front and side of the machine, both are filtered. I then have three fan's that blow air out of the computer in the back.
