guyz i herd it is possible you can tweak your computer to run at faster speeds...

the dude that told me this, said to press delete button at boot-up
and then adjust the pnp settings to the hight settings......

if so how do i do this....

cuz my computer is only 166mHz and very sluggish,i can play diablo 2 but just not as fast....so if i can (tweak) it i know diablo 2 will work better, plz tell me what this dude was talking about

4 words:

Buy a better computer!:P

Seriously, there's nothing that you can do to a 166mhz to get it to play d2 remotely fast. As i recall i think the minimum it requires you to have is like 300mhz.

You can try and overclock it but your prolly not gonna get much fast than 233 or so.

How much RAM does it have?

That's the CMOS setup screen. You can change your PnP (Plug 'n' Play) settings, but I seriously doubt that would affect the operating speed of your comp. :reallyodd

In fact, you will most likely destabilize or destroy your system if you start messing around in there...best to leave it alone. Good rule of thumb: If you don't know exactly what it is, LEAVE IT ALONE! :)

Seriously, a new PC is the only thing that will help you at this point. Don't try to piecemeal it, either - just start over. Your computer is far too out of date at this point.

Boy, I'm quite the Angel of Death today! :weird:

Like risingson said, if you dont know how to do it, leave it alone. its not worth screwing up your computer.

Overclocking can be done several ways...you will probably have to change jumpers on your motherboard. I do not know what motherboard you have, so I can't be more specific. Overclocking does shorten the life of your system by running it faster than it was originally designed to. Sometimes dramatically. I strongly reccomend against it.

O wait, I just remembered something! There is a company called Evergreen Technologies. They make drop-in CPU upgrades for PCs. I tried one of their upgrades in an old P1 133 with great success. Nice speed up, only cost me $75.

More RAM will be helpful...your PC probably uses SIMMs (check the manual!). SIMMs are cheap, so get at least 128 MB if you can! Again, I do not know your system, so please take this advice with a pinch of salt!

you can pick up decent computer from aboput 600 now.

Almost all major manufacturer have computers for about 599-699.

 :)

Start saving those pennies! Gateway and Dell are always running specials like these. It's well worth it, you need an upgrade my man. :fro:

or you could build one yourself. you will definetly get better parts for your money. and it is easy (i built my first when i was 11, and i didn't know wut the hell i was doing!! hehehe) but it can be a real pain in the ass sometimes (setting it up, not the actual building) so if you have any techi friends around you, you might ask one of them to give you a hand. Start reading alot of reviews about hardware ( a great site is www.anandtech.com) and select the best stuff for your price range. If you go this route, you will get a MUCH better "gaming" pc then anything dell or etc... will sell you. but if you don't feel comfortable tearing the guts of your PC out, or don't have a techi friend, stick with dell :)

He's the dorky kid who hawks Dell on TV. I want his job 'cos he's undoubtedly getting good money to be silly - something I do for free every day. :)

LOL!!! yea that's a good idea, run into best buy and grab one!!
as for the dork hawkin dell, sure he gets paid, but do you think he gets any *****? "hey girls look its the dell nerd...ohhhhh hes sooooo cute, yea isn't he? lets go give him some head! sure! you do that and i'll strip for him! yay!!!!" LOL

hehe... You have a old one there. Dont feel bad.. Mine is getting old too. 700mhz.. bought it for 3000 back in the day when it was new.. and im still paying on it.....  One good thing i did learn from that is now i know how to build my own computer when the time comes.

This is off of www.tcwo.com. It's a fair priced gaming oriented PC that actually has quite a bit of power to it.
AMD 1600+ CPU
256 Megs of DDR ram
40 gig HD
Sound Blaster Audigy sound card (Very nice)
Geforce 3 Ti 200 (Also Quite good)
For about 800 (I omitted the modem, and monitor, and Speakers BTW. You should have a monitor, and I have no idea how you connect to the internet. ;) ) you can have your very own gaming oriented PC. (Which is also pretty fairly upgradeable)
Of course there are other websites that will offer deals as well, I just wanted to lay down the reality. :D
BTW, you would have to assemble this PC yourself. :nervous: But that's how you get the best prices. ;)

cheaper yes. but you won't gain much more power. the best you could do without upgrading serious hardware would be buy more ram and get a new CPU. if you wanna go that route, i'd suggest you take a look at that evergreen tech stuff. but your just gonna haveta upgrade the next time you get a better game and you wanna play that. you will also need to find out wut the max CPU your motherboard can support. then go from there. The higher it supports the better off you will be. Another thing that would greatly help you out, do you have a 3D card? for games, thats a really essential upgrade, (unless you play only old 2D games, starcraft, etc...) you wouldn't need anything expensive since your CPU would really be the bottleneck for the card. as a matter of fact, i've got 2 old video cards i don't use. one is a Creative Labs 3DBlaster PCI (Rendition Verite v1000) and the other is a Diamond Monster3D (3Dfx Voodoo 1, also PCI). They work together, and both have 3D capabilities. wut kind of video card do you have now? lmk and if wut i have is better, i'll send em to ya (provided you pay for shpping :) )

sure. as long as you can pay for shipping i'll send you both cards, and the driver discs. hell i'll even see if i can find some games to go with em (just to get you started in the world of 3D) it's an amazing difference, 3D over 2D i mean. its like the difference between PSX and PS2 (well thats the exact difference, only it won't be as much). e-mail me and we can discuss it further. or PM, same thing :) have you ever installed a PCI card?
