Hey guys, I'm trying to share my external hard drive on my network with password protection so only I can access it.

Configuration:

Compaq with the drive in question (Windows Server 2003)
Three more Windows/Ubuntu machines

I currently have it set to shared but I can't even see the drive on another system. They are all on the same workgroup.

Could someone walk me through this? If you need more specific info just ask away.

Are any of them running Vista? For Vista machine to see other machines the other machines need to be running LLTD, as far as I recall.

Also some anti-virus likes to block things, especially the personal firewalls they generally come with. As well as the Windows Firewall if you haven't allowed access through that either.

I'm not familiar with Ubuntu sorry.

i would just map a network drive.

in my computer, tools>map network drive. Choose a drive letter and set it to \\computername\sharename

Do I do that on the server or client side?

A client can't see the drive, period. The server claims that there is no network found.

Apparently I need a nice step by step walkthrough.
