Help w/ Line tool Plz

I am having problems with my line tool with Photoshop 7.. I just recently reformatted my computer and i forgot how to set my line tool to just make a line and not any layers.. Can anyone please help me? Every time i make a line, it makes a new layer and i can t edit it >_< its relly annoying.

any answers?
 
Think this might be the problem
 
For just a line, select the middle one between those two indicated options.
 
They're exactly right. The last option just makes a path so you can adjust, then fill in later.
